Festival of India 2018

Ratha Yatra or the Festival of India (Chariots) is one of the world’s oldest religious festivals, originally celebrated in Jagannath Puri. By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada this festival is now being celebrated all over the world. In the summer of 1967, the city of San Francisco saw the Western world’s first Ratha Yatra. Many other swamis and yogis journeyed to the West in the past, but none of them had the vision of Srila Prabhupada: to establish the Krishna conscious culture of ancient India without watering it down. Srila Prabhupada introduced Lord Jagannatha to the Western world and also inaugurated the Ratha Yatra ceremony, in its original format. New Vrindaban will celebrate this international festival for the third year in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia.

Following the race, participants can enjoy refreshments, door prizes, awards ceremony, and music. Awards will be given to the top 5 female and male walkers and runners, and the top three female and male finishers in the following categories: 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, top finisher in 70+. Attendees can buy tasting tickets to sample the dozens of chilis and salsas prepared by the contestants. The Wheeling Feeling Chili Cookoff offers a beautiful venue and easy access from Interstate 70. Cooks can enter the following categories: red chili, chili verde, salsa, and homestyle. The event is an official International Chili Society (ICS) competition. The ICS is a nonprofit organization that sanctions chili cookoffs with judging and cooking rules/regulations. The events are worldwide and benefit charities and nonprofit organizations. All winners of ICS-sanctioned cookoffs qualify to compete for cash prizes and awards at the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff held each year in October.
