Unique ways to bring in the New Year in Almost Heaven

You don’t have to make the journey to New York City to get your fill of New Years fun! Be sure to check out one of these activities in the Mountain State to properly ring in the new year!

Downtown Countdown – a Winterfest Celebration

The annual Downtown Countdown takes place in downtown Princeton and gives visitors a chance to get creative with their New Years Eve celebration. There will be seven indoor venues featuring live performances by artists like Je’Dah Palmer, FROST LION Ice Plus, Travers Brothership, Allthebestkids, Imagine Circus, Poor Taters, Melissa McKinney Music, CassiRaye, James Hart, and Ashley Surface. At midnight, there will be a ball drop and fireworks!

Lenox’s New Years Day Tradition

Despite being several hundred miles from the ocean, the town of Lenox brings in each new year with a seaside staple. Since the early 1900s, the town of Lenox has eaten oysters together every Jan. 1. No one is really sure why it is such a grand tradition in the community, but it became something that the locals decided needed to continue – thus, we have the annual Lenox New Years Day oyster feast. If you’re interested in attending the event, make your way to the Lenox Community Building on New Year’s Day at noon. Make sure you bring your appetite!

Other events around the state

Of course, if you can’t take part in either of those events, there are many other New Years Eve celebrations across the state! Bluefield has its own Lemon Drop event (named after Bluefield’s iconic “Lemonade Days”) while places like Stonewall Resort, the Greenbrier Resort, and Twin Falls Resort State Park all offer great New Years packages and celebrations!
