The best places for ice skating in Almost Heaven

Whether you’re a child or just a child at heart, ice skating is something that you can enjoy. You may spend more time on the ground than actually upright, but there is no denying that you’ll have fun either way! Throughout the state, you can find ice skating rinks for family-friendly fun:

Canaan Valley Resort State Park

Located just outside of the cozy, unique towns of Thomas and Davis, Canaan Valley Resort State Park is home to 47 ski slopes, a snow tube park and a modern lodge. One other attraction you may have not known about, however, is their ice skating rink! The rink is open every week through the winter season and is surrounded by beautiful rolling mountains and plains. They offer skate rentals, too!

South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena

The South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena is jam-packed with fun for everyone. The rink features a heated seating area with TVs and a fireplace in case you are only there to spectate. The rink itself is quite large, as it can even fit Olympic figure skating routines. Admission to the rink is $8 plus $2 if you’re renting skates. If you work up an appetite, there is even a concession stand inside the arena. Or, if you’re really hungry, you can visit Capitol Street in downtown Charleston and eat at one of the many local restaurants!

Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena

Tucked away in Mountaineer Country is the Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena. The 400-seat arena is located in White Park in Morgantown and features a 185′ x 85′ rink perfect for families of all ages. The arena serves several purposes as it is also the home of the West Virginia Mountaineers men’s hockey team. Public sessions are Friday and the weekend, and Sundays are “Family Day.” On Family Day, a family of up to four can enjoy an afternoon of skating for $20 including skate rentals. On other days, admission is $5 for adults and $4 for children, while skate rentals are $3.

The Greenbrier

One of The Greenbrier’s newest amenities is the 70′ x 140′ ice skating rink! The rink is complimentary and open daily and overnight for guests with skate rentals available as well. Non-guests can enjoy the rink, too! Non -registered day guests and guests of members can skate for $20 a day plus skate rentals. Afterward, enjoy one of the many shops or restaurants The Greenbrier has to offer!

With so many options around the state for ice skating, there is no excuse not to have some fun gliding around the rink!
