1. Alpine Lake Resort

Alpine Lake Resort located in Terra Alta is the best kept secret of cross-country skiers thanks to its groomed trails and abundance of snowfall. Alpine Lake Resort is beloved by cross-country skiers as it offers miles of groomed trails great for striding, skating, diagonal stride and snow showing. Alpine Lake Resort receives over 100 inches of snow annually, has seven groomed trails and has a base elevation of 2,800 feet. The resort also has a 35-room hotel, cozy cabins and a beautiful lodge, which makes it a great place to relax and unwind after a day spent cross country skiing.

2. Blackwater Falls State Park

Blackwater Falls State Park is known for its amazing 57-foot cascade, but the park also has a number of outdoor activities available, including cross-country skiing. The park has more than 10 miles of trails available for cross-country skiing. Whenever the park is covered in snow, incredible views await you at every corner. Blackwater Falls State Park also has a gorgeous 54 room lodge with sweeping views of the gorge below as well as 39 rustic cabins.

3. White Grass Ski Touring Center

White Grass Ski Touring Center in Davis maintains over 60 km of trails ranging from 3220 to 4,463 feet. A visit to the White Grass Ski Center is a fun experience all around for cross-country skiers, as the center has a wholesome natural foods café, unique laidback experience, curvy and exciting trails, and a ski specialty shop for all your needs. Around the area, there are many beautiful places to stay, including the Black Bear Resort, Canaan Valley Resort State Park and the Bright Morning B&B.

4. Elk River Touring Center

The Elk River Touring Center is located in the heart of the beautiful Monongahela National Forest and is an incredible place to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Elk River Touring Center receives an annual snowfall of 180 inches and has a high elevation of 2750 feet. The area has five kilometers of trails that are located adjacent to the Elk River Touring Center and the national forest, as well as 35 additional kilometers that crisscross the Highland Scenic Highway. On site, you can find the Elk River Inn & Restaurant. The inn features five guest rooms, sitting room, TV lounge and outfitters shop. The restaurant is known for its delicious health-conscious menu, pub style bar and beautiful views.

5. Pipestem Resort State Park

Stunning Pipestem Resort State Park is a perfect place for cross country skiing and sledding especially with the incredible backcountry views the trails provide. The park even features seven advanced trails that are not maintained for experienced skiers. Stay on site at the McKeever Lodge, which has 113 guest rooms and suites or one of the parks 26 comfy cabins.
