No matter the season, there is adventure to be found in the Mountain State. Rain or shine, day or night, there is an activity in Almost Heaven perfect for you and your family! Throughout the year there are incredible opportunities for unique experiences across the state! Uphill or downhill, we have you covered.

Skiing &Tubing

It is no secret that West Virginia has some of the best slopes on the East Coast. The rolling hills of the New River/Greenbrier Valley make for some of the smoothest downhill skiing you’ve ever experienced! The peaks of the Potomac Highlands offer limitless thrill and excitement. If skiing isn’t the right fit for you, don’t worry. Many West Virginia outfitters like Winterplace, Snowshoe and Canaan Valley Resort offer both skiing and snow tubing for the whole family!

Ziplines

Some of the most scenic views of the state that you can experience are from one of our many ziplines! Places like ACE Adventure Resort, Adventures on the Gorge, and Grand Vue Park offer adrenaline-packed adventures through the trees for optimum views of the Mountain State. ACE Adventure Resort and Adventures on the Gorge offers guests a bird’s eye view of the New River Gorge while zipping over the forests of Southern West Virginia. Grand Vue Park sits atop Moundsville and offers panoramic views of the historic Northern Panhandle city.

ATV Riding

Southern West Virginia is nature’s amusement park. The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System offers riders over 600 miles to explore. Step off the beaten path and onto West Virginia’s natural roller coaster, and in the process, discover the history of one of the most notorious feuds in American history. Some of the most popular trailheads are the Buffalo Mountain, Bearwallow, Pocahontas, and Pinnacle Creek trailheads. With hundreds of miles of trails to discover, the Hatfield-McCoy trails offer endless opportunity for Mountain State fun!

Trains

There are several opportunities for train excursions across the Mountain State. Potomac Eagle Scenic Rail Excursions offers rides from May-September, as well as daily trips in October. The three-hour ride will take you along the scenic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad and give you the chance to possibly see a Bald Eagle! Cass Scenic Railroad is a staple of West Virginia and takes passengers the third highest point in Almost Heaven – Bald Knob! The trip is operated by Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad and is offered every fall. Other trips include excursions to Cheat Mountain and much of southern West Virginia.
