DAY 1
Begin your day with a luxurious, homemade breakfast from one of the local bed and breakfasts in Harpers Ferry: The Ledge House Bed and Breakfast, Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast or The Jackson Rose Bed & Breakfast. Afterward, explore the historic sites at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, like John Brown’s Fort and Jefferson Rock.
For lunch, stop by Bistro 1840 for a sampling of tuna niçoise salad with quail egg or a pancetta mac & cheese with white truffle oil. Then, wash it all down with an English IPA at Mash Brewing Company or a Sour Peach Shenandoah Saison from Abolitionist Ale Works in Charles Town.
For dinner, enjoy a special meal at the Redbook Restaurant at Hillbrook Inn & Spa. This unique restaurant handwrites every meal in a small red notebook so that no two meals repeat for customers. Enjoy a five-course candlelit prix fixe dinner before retiring to an elegant room at the inn.
DAY 2
Venture into the mountains of West Virginia and taste the flavors of Appalachia. Stop by the Lost River area and visit the Wardensville Garden Market for a warm pastry from their made-from-scratch bakery. Be sure to buy a few snacks to eat on the road. Try their elevated take on a pepperoni roll. Baked with local pepperoni and savory mozzarella cheese, this West Virginia traditional snack food features their artisan focaccia dough recipe.
Continue toward Upper Tract and stop by Swilled Dog Hard Cider for a tour and tasting. Their tasting room features unique and exclusive hard ciders, from Root Beer Float and Peanut Butter to Mango Ginger and Tangerine, there’s something to satisfy every palate.
End your day at Snowshoe Mountain. At 4,848 feet in elevation, you’ll be sure to have a spectacular view from any room. The village has a number of incredible restaurants including Cheat Mountain Pizza, Foxfire Grille, Junction Restaurant, Old Spruce Tavern, Tuques Bar and Grill and the Whistle Stop. Visit the Connection Nightclub, Old Spruce Brewery and Hoot’s Bar and Grill for an evening of après and nightlife.
DAY 3
Head to West Virginia’s southern border to drink and dine like a local. Be sure to visit Dobra Zupas, a family-owned restaurant that has recently expanded into craft brewing. As the first and only craft brewery in Beckley, experience their signature style with their finely crafted food and beer.
Travel to Princeton’s Grassroots District, where there is something for everyone. The Blue Ridge Bee Company offers local honey, groceries including local meats and produce, gifts, beekeeping supplies, West Virginia maple syrup, natural beauty products and much more. Grab an ice cream cone at the counter or take it to go and explore the area.
Southern West Virginia is home to several craft breweries to satisfy any beer connoisseur. Pay a visit to the Sophisticated Hound Microbrewery and Tap Room in the Grassroots District in Princeton, which features a selection of craft beer, signature sandwiches and personal pizzas. Catch live music and enjoy the atmosphere in this up-and-coming location. In the town of Ghent, you’ll find Weathered Ground Brewery, a family-owned brewery located on beautiful farmland. Taste small batch West Virginia farmhouse ales crafted with the finest local ingredients.
