How to Start
Winter sports are a great way to get out of the house and enjoy the snow. No matter if you are skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, or snowmobiling there is an outfitter for you. They will be able to answer all your questions and set you on your way to your adventure.


What to Bring
Your gear list is always going to vary on the weather, temperature, time of year, and Almost Heaven destination. If you are traveling with friends or a local guide, it is always best to consult them on specific gear needs. However, if you’re just looking for the basics, here’s a helpful list that outlines the gear almost every adventurer needs.
- The key to clothing is layers
- Warm socks (synthetic or wool)
- Gloves or mittens
- Warm hat
- Ski jacket and pants
- A water bottle with extra water
- Sunglasses with retention strap

DAY 1
Begin your winter adventure at Winterplace Ski Resort. Located between Bluefield and Beckley, Winterplace offers 27 trails, nine lifts, two terrain parks, and West Virginia’s largest snowtubing park. If you can’t ski or snowboard, don’t worry! Winterplace offers lessons and was voted the #1 place to learn to ski and snowboard at by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine. When you are finished on the slopes, make your way to neighboring Beckley and grab a bite to eat at The Char, Pasquale’s, or the world-famous Tamarack.
