Located in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest, Elk River is the

former mountain homestead, is located on the headwaters of the Elk River and

The Elk River Touring Center is located on Hwy 219 five miles from Snowshoe
Mountain Resort and seven miles from the Highland Scenic Highway. Our location
and exceptional service make Elk River the destination for winter fun. Our elevation at 2750' is high enough to receive an annual
snowfall of about 180 inches per year.
We promote Cross Country Skiing In West Virginia on the trails which
criss-cross the Highland Scenic Highway 150, which peaks at an elevation of
around 4700'. The downhill skiing at nearby Snowshoe Mountain peaks at 4848',
making for two of the highest (and snowiest!) points in West Virginia.
