Festivals

Plan a delicious tour through the hills and valleys with West Virginia’s fall festivals, where traditional autumn crops, fall mountain flavors & family-friendly fun are celebrated all season long in Almost Heaven.

September

Clay County Golden Delicious Apple Festival – Celebrate West Virginia’s state fruit at the Clay County Golden Delicious Festival, featuring good old-fashioned bobbing for apples, amusement rides and a baking contest featuring the state’s prized golden delicious apple.

Martinsburg Chili Cook-Off – As a chill enters the air, chili is on everyone’s mind. Sample different chili recipes from local chefs and select which one warms you up.

Buckwheat Festival – One of West Virginia’s oldest festivals began in Kingwood in 1938 and celebrates one of the county’s most important crops. During this four-day festival, get your hands on a buckwheat cakes and sausage dinner here and smother them in apple butter or syrup for a tasty fall treat.

Apple Butter Festival – The Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival features amusement rides, craft vendors and, of course, tons of apple butter.

October

West Virginia Pumpkin Festival – At this four-day pumpkin extravaganza, find rows and rows of arts and craft vendors, delicious pumpkin-flavored food, apple butter making, spinning, live music, and piles of pumpkins big and small.

Taste of Our Towns (TOOT) – People from across the region gather in downtown Lewisburg to sample tastings from more than 50 local restaurants, civic clubs and other organizations. Yearly favorites– like The General Lewis Inn’s pecan pie– can run out fast, so get there early!

Taste of Bridge Day – Planning on making the trek to Fayetteville for an unforgettable Bridge Day? Don’t forget to check out Taste of Bridge Day the night before to taste samples from local and regional restaurants.

Apple Harvest Festival – Harvest time means mountain apples! Apple jelly, apple pie, apple butter, cider and more dominate this family-friendly festival held in Martinsburg. You’ll also enjoy quilts, crafts, music, a 5k and amazing harvest season foods.

Pick-Your-Own

Explore West Virginia’s fall foods first-hand. Take a trip to a pumpkin patch to select your perfect jack-o-lantern, visit an apple orchard to gather a bunch of local apples for a homemade pie or head to a local farm to pluck your own berries.

Orr’s Farm Market – Located in Martinsburg, Orr’s Farm Market offers a variety of pick-your-own produce: flowers, strawberries, cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, grapes, blueberries and more. In the fall, though, you’ll find a pumpkin patch to choose the perfect pumpkin, as well as apples and pears.

Gritt’s Farm – This Buffalo farm has several fall playgrounds for the kids, including a slide mountain, corn pit and a hay maze. They can also hitch a hayride, hop aboard the wagon train or ride around in a peddle kart. You can pick your own pumpkin to take home.

Farmers Markets

Farmers Markets are popular all through the fall. You can meet and chat with the farmers who grow your food and learn about farming firsthand. Not only will you find fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables, you’ll also discover eggs, cheese, local meats, crafts, jellies and homemade breads.

Located throughout the state, farmers’ markets bring fresh, local products to the community. Check out some of Almost Heaven’s farmers’ markets:
