Experience the newly open Forks of Coal Natural Area; nearly 5 miles of trails through historic and scenic point between Big Coal and Little Coal rivers at Alum Creek, West Virginia. Why Orange? Put on your Blaze Orange and help promote safe practice for walking and running with nature during hunting season. Plus it will look great in the group photo. November is Runners' Safety Month and Hunting Season. There will be awards for the first to finish female and male runners as well as other prizes and refreshments. Hatfield McCoy Country Museum Grand Opening

Announcing the opening of the brand new Hatfield McCoy Country Museum! This museum features one of a kind artifacts from the regions history, informational displays about the Hatfield and McCoy feud, our coal heritage and more. Other attractions include the interior of a 1920's coal camp house, the Underground Theater that looks like the inside of a coal mine, the Bee Ward Coleman collection--one of the largest collections of coal mining artifacts in the country. City of Logan Woods & Water Festival

The City of Logan will be having their first "Woods & Water Festival" beginning Friday, September 2, 2016 and continuing thru Sunday, September 4, 2016. Activities include: a fishing tournament, a kayak "River Poker Run" on the Guyandotte River and an ATV "Poker Run to the Mountains" on the Hatfield McCoy Trails. Registration for Woods & Water Packages will begin on Friday at Four Seasons Country Store. 33nd annual Sue Browning Wildflower Hike at Chief Logan State Park is free to participate and open to the public. Join us at 8:00 a.m. to register for the annual wildflower hike and continental breakfast at The Museum at the Park. Guided hikes begin at 9:00 a.m. Lunch at 12:30 for hikers. Sponsored by Chief Logan State Park, Woman's Club of Omar (GFWC-WV) and the WV Division of Culture and History/Museum at the Park. This is a wonderful location to see spring wildflowers. Please preregister, call Jill Stone. This hike is a guided hike and individuals in WV State Park Hiking Program and/or enrolled in the 2016 Chief's Challenge can take advantage of the miles earned.

National Trailfest

The National Trailfest attracts ATV and trail-riding enthusiasts from across the nation. With poker games, costume nights, mud runs, and stunt shows, Trailfest has something for everyone. The 2016 National Trailfest will take place in Gilbert, West Virginia, October 6-10, 2016.

Hatfield-McCoy Reunion Festival

This annual fun-filled festival celebrates the area's Hatfield-McCoy history with live music, a tug of war across the river, narrated tours, re-enactments, exhibits, food, crafts, and more!

Matewan Homecoming Celebration

Each September, the Matewan Homecoming celebration includes a car show, live entertainment, vendors, and a Matewan Massacre Reenactment. Fifty plaques and 40 trophies are awarded to car show participants as well as eleven special awards. Vendor spaces are free on a first come, first serve basis. Hatfield-McCoy Airboat tours, the Matewan Depot Replica, and the Mine Wars Museum are all open to the public.

Matewan’s Heritage Day

Each year in May, the town celebrates Heritage Day with entertainment in Matewan's plaza and a re-enactment of the Matewan Massacre, a shootout between UMWA miners and Baldwin-Felts detectives on May 19, 1920. The celebration takes place downtown with street vendors, plays and scavenger hunts.

Cabwaylingo State Forest – 4/30 – MAKE IT SHINE

It's time to Make It Shine at Cabwaylingo State Forest. Join us at 10:00 a.m. at the Crum Morgan Shelter to help spring clean the stream and areas at the forest. Wear work clothes and boots. Volunteers will sign a volunteer work agreement upon arrival. All ages of families, and individuals, all working together for the betterment of Cabwaylingo State Forest has proven to make this event not only productive, but enjoyable for all participants. The 2016 WV Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup is sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Division of Highways. If you are interested in participating in the Cabwaylingo State Forest Spring Steam Cleanup please complete and return the registration form. Preregistered volunteers working on April 30 may camp for free on April 29 and 30. Free camping requires preregistration for Make It Shine Day.
