Since pre-Civil War, Sturgill’s have worked the hills of Appalachia. In 1976, Kenneth Sturgill established the Sturgill Mountain Homestead. It is a small, quaint farm overlooking the majestic ridge lines of Mingo County, where he and his grandson continue to raise and harvest their own honey, vegetables, fruits, and livestock. His wife, Pauline, is a master artisan. She is known throughout Southern WV for her artisan breads and cakes made from produce out of her own gardens, as well as jams and quilted masterpieces. Their daughter, Alivia, who also resides on the mountain, aids in managing the farm's sustainability.
