Harlem Globetrotters
The Original Harlem Globetrotters are preparing for their action packed 2017 World Tour! A star-studded roster will have fans on the edge of their seats to witness the ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages. New this season, the Globetrotters will debut basketball’s first 4-point line. The 4-point line will be located 30 feet from the basket – 6 feet, 3 inches beyond the top of the NBA’s current 3-point line. Join Globetrotter stars after the game where they will stay for an autograph, photograph and high five session for fans (subject to availability). Admission: $15 - $67.50

Full Moon Hike
Full Moon hikes at Cass Scenic Railroad are led hikes designed to encourage visitors to enjoy being outdoors in wintry and spring weather. Meet at the Visitor's Center at Cass, WV at 6:30p.m. There is no charge to participate. Hike guidelines include: • Fee free activity, but limited to 30 participants. • Preregistration is required. Use email link below or call. • Registration will be confirmed by hike leader. • Meet At The Visitor Center • Hike is approximately 3 miles total. • Walk begins from the Visitor Center to MM 79 On The Greenbrier River Trail and back. • Trail is crushed gravel and minimal grade change. • Dress for the weather. Boots or closed toes footwear, socks, layered outerwear is recommended, head wear and gloves could be handy. • Pack a water or snack. • Photography is permitted, but flash photography is not. We'll need to retain our night vision. • NO FLASHLIGHTS OR HEADLAMPS. Shining a bright flashlight will diminish your night vision for up to 30 minutes, limiting your view of the night sky and wildlife. You can bring a flashlight for the 'just in case' but refrain from shining – we'll let the moon and stars do that! • Participants should be believe they can complete three miles. You can do it! The Full Moon Hike group will remain together for the duration of the walk/hike. Safety first. • Children must be with a parent or guardian at all times. • Well behaved dogs are allowed. Dogs will rely on their human to keep them on leash and under control. • Due to limited participation (30), large groups (10 or more people) desiring to participate should contact the leader, email below. • Use Full Moon Hike miles as some of the miles hiking if you are enrolled in the WV State Park Hiking Program.
Berming Man Banked Slalom
Snowshoe Mountain's first ever "Berming Man Banked Slalom," brought to you by Oakley, is a snowboard derby by design, but a gathering of the snowboard community by default. The two section course will test both speed and grit. Upon leaving the starting gate, riders will drop into a banked slalom section with multiple turns to test the riders' waxing choice and technique. After speeding through the turns, the course will open up into a mogul field we have crowned, the "Boneyard." The top portion of the course will be gated, but the "Boneyard" section will be open to rider creativity and bravery. The contest will consist of the best of two runs. Categories are Men’s, Women’s, Collegiateand Youth (16 and under ). The fastest times of the day take home prizes from event sponsors, along with the inaugural “Berming Man” trophy and the honor of having their photo on display in Old Spruce Tavern for a full year of bragging rights as the fastest snowboarder in West Virginia.

Night Hike by the Full Moon
We may wander through winter's silence broken by a coyote chorus or an owl calling, a snow falling in a hushed forest, or maybe moonlight shining on sparkling snow. We'll also invite stories of winter wildlife encounters and provide some interpretation for flora and fauna winter survival. Meet at Shelter #5 at 6:30 p.m. Dress according to weather; we could be hiking through snow. Hot chocolate will be waiting upon your return. Please bring a light source. The City of Charleston Winter Series 10K Run/Walk
Come out and run or walk the final race of the Charleston Winter Series. The 10K starts behind the UC Pharmacy School at 2 p.m. The course is flat, easy, and will be well marked. The Snow Bunny Run is for children ages 4-12 and is an extension of the Charleston Winter Series. Bundle the kids up and bring them out for a fun and free way to keep moving in winter. Children will be grouped into two separate age groups. Ages 4-7 will run 1/4 mile, and ages 8-12 will run 1/2 mile. Meet at the Nature Center 15 minutes before departure. Hike locations will be on a rotating schedule, and hike routes will be of varying levels of difficulty. Dress according to hike difficulty and weather. Bring water, a snack, and binoculars. (A few pairs of binoculars are available to borrow.) Augusta Dance
The Mountain Dance Trail, a heritage tourism project of the Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College, will host its monthly square dance on Friday, February 10, in Myles Center for the Arts Pit Dance Studio on the College campus. The event will feature music by Gerry Milnes and friends, with Mary Alice Milnes calling square dances. A beginners’ workshop is set for 7:45 p.m. and the dance starts at 8 p.m. All dances are beginner and family friendly and participants don’t need to come with a dance partner. Admission is $6 for general public, $4 for students and AmeriCorps members, and free to Davis & Elkins College students, faculty and staff. Flintknapping Demonstration
A flintknapping demonstration, led by archaeologist Richie Rosencrance, will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11 in The Stirrup Gallery in Myles Center for the Arts on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Flintknapping is the production of stone tools most commonly known as arrowheads. The demonstration will include a discussion on raw materials, knapping tools and techniques, types of stone tools and prehistoric lifeways. Anyone who has artifacts they would like to learn more about is encouraged to bring the items to the session for Rosencrance to examine. There is no fee to attend. George Washington never got to ski the Western Territory, but you can! Take advantage of the long weekend and peak conditions.
Boy Scout Merit Badge Weekend
Select weekends are set aside for boy scout troops to visit the Green Bank Observatory and complete activities to earn their astronomy merit badge. Scouts and Chaperones stay in our affordable bunkhouse ($10/person/night, $200/night minimum). Camping is also available in a designated area on the campus ($5/person/night, $150/night minimum). Meals are available in our cafeteria. Most designated weekends are devoted to the Astronomy Merit badge. There is no charge for the Astronomy program. In 2017, we will host one Electronics Merit badge weekend. As we will be soldering electronic kits as part of the program, there is a $5.00/scout charge to cover the cost of the materials.
Subaru Winterfest
Like Snowshoe, Subaru believes in embracing winter adventure because their passion for the outdoors doesn't hibernate! That's why they created Subaru WinterFest, a one-of-a-kind mountain destination and lifestyle tour where skiers and snowboarders can come together and share their passion for all things winter. Burton Kid’s Snowboard Camp
Mountaineer Parks and Burton Snowboards are ready and waiting up at Snowshoe Mountain for a total takeover by little shredders! The 3rd annual Burton Kid’s Snowboard Camp is going to be a rippin’ good time and we’re calling all riders ages 4-12 to come on up and ride! Whether you’re a first time snowboarder, or charging it in the park, we’ve got a team of coaches stoked to help you experience snowboarding like never before! This camp is busting at the seams with fun; 2 full days of snowboarding, expert coaching, a pizza party, Burton swag, even an ice cream social. Want to show off all that style? Enter Mountaineer Parks Progression Session park competition and show the Mountain what you’ve got! (Entry in the competition is available at a discounted rate to all camp participants). Progression Session-Snowshoe Mountain
Progression Session Jam is a fun, freestyle learning based event where the competitors will work on fundamentals and improve their park skills with the assistance of some awesome coaches and the Mountaineer Park staff. Judging will be based off of how much heart, attitude, and dedication the rider shows and how much they progressed throughout the event.
Cupp Run Challenge
This is one of Snowshoe’s oldest traditions. Conquer the steeps of the legendary Western Territory in this giant slalom race. Multiple classes for ski and snowboard.

You loved these guys so much in summer, we decided to bring them back! Dangermuffin is the perfect combination of Appalachian influence mixed with the salty vibes of Carolina’s coast. Putnam Tastes and Talents Month
Putnam County is home to a wealth of artists, artisans, musicians and writers. Tastes and Talents features these creatives in fun and engaging ways. Polar Bear Plunge
Club members gather annually to plunge in the 30-degree waters of Anthony Creek in the Monongahela National Forest. Spectators are welcome and new members are encouraged. The one-hour event includes club members singing the "Ode to Polar Bear" song, the Polar Bear Spirit Award winner presentation and a giant American Flag hung from the swinging bridge.

Authors and international speakers Tiffany Jana and Matthew Freeman will present a talk titled Unpacking Privilege at 10 a.m. Monday, January 16 in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Open to the public, the event is part of D&E’s First-Year Symposium focusing on democracy. Admission is free.
A Service in Memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Davis & Elkins College will host a service in memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 3 p.m. Monday, January 16 in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. The program will include a scripture reading, music and a showing of an excerpt from “Three Evils of Society.” The Rev. Jeremiah Jasper, pastor of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church in Elkins, will serve as guest speaker. Davis & Elkins College students also will take part in the program. The ceremony will conclude with a conversation titled “Where do we go from here?” and the lighting of candles for peace. There is no admission fee.
