History
Lewis County is a history buff’s paradise. Visit the world’s second largest hand-cut stone masonry building. The Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill beginning in the mid-1800’s. This 160-year-old asylum holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the “curative” effects of architecture and the efforts of determined individuals to help better the lives of the mentally ill. The Mountaineer Military Museum started as a promise to never forget a few fallen friends but has grown into a gallery of over 35 years’ worth of military memorabilia. Stop by today to see items from the Korean, Vietnam and Civil wars.

Stay
The Stonewall Resort offers luxury accommodations in a main lodge, cabins and cottages. If you’d rather be closer to nature, they offer campsites too. Here you’ll be close to nature but far from ordinary. There are even a few pet friendly options if you can’t leave home without your furry, four-legged friends. Featuring three restaurants – a signature restaurant at Stillwaters, picturesque Lightburn’s and the casual TJ Muskies Lounge – you’ll never have to venture outside the park.
