Camp Creek State Park
Camp Creek State Park has 4 campgrounds, all of which have campsites fully equipped with picnic tables, grills and fire rings for your family to stay at while exploring the 7 miles of seasonally stocked waterways within its boundaries. Experience excellent trout fishing in the narrow, peaceful streams that flow through the park. It is also near the Bluestone National Scenic River which is not only beautiful but provides many opportunities to cast a line in its majestic waters.
Cheat Lake
Located in the heart of Mountaineer Country and just minutes from Morgantown, this family-friendly fishing spot provides everyone with a chance to enjoy a day on the 1,170-acre lake surrounded by beautiful scenery. Cheat Lake is home to several species of bass, walleye, catfish, pike and trout. You can cast a line from a pier found on the Cheat Lake Trail or rent a boat, kayak or canoe from Sunset Beach Marina and take it to the calmer backwaters to have your best luck.
Sutton Lake
The 1,440-acre Sutton Lake is conveniently located just minutes off of I-79, and Sutton Lake Marina is one of the best places in West Virginia for houseboat, pontoon boat and jet ski rentals. Take your watercraft of choice to any one of the many coves and secluded fishing spots along the lake’s 40 miles of shoreline. There are multiple campgrounds in the surrounding area for your family to choose from to stay at while enjoying the tranquil waters.
Greenbrier River
Greenbrier River Trail State Park is a rail trail that runs adjacent to the river for 78 miles and provides many access points to the calm, clear and shallow waters of the Greenbrier River. Enjoy the fight given by the lively rock bass and smallmouth bass that call this river home and take in the stunning mountain scenery that surrounds you. Relax at any one of the many cabin getaways near the river that include Watoga State Park, Greenbrier River Retreat or Greenbrier River Cabins.
Beech Fork State Park
Beech Fork Lake is 720 acres with 31 miles of shoreline accessible by miles of hiking trails. Fish for largemouth and hybrid striped bass, crappie, catfish, sauger and bluegill from the bank or rent a canoe, kayak, jon boat or paddle boat from the park’s boat dock. Beech Fork State Park is located in the picturesque hills of southwestern West Virginia and is only a short drive from Huntington and Barboursville.
