West Virginia has an abundance of creative folks crafting handmade products. Look for these one-of-a-kind products as you explore Almost Heaven.

This iconic stop features West Virginia-made crafts like glass, wood, pottery, quilts and jewelry, as well as specialty foods, fine art, photos, books and music. Tamarack has 5 resident artisan studios where you can watch artists create their work. With special events all the time, you can see live music and performances, food tastings and craft demonstrations.

Or pick up a sparkling glass rose paperweight or marbled vase that will last a lifetime at West Virginia American Art Glass in Weston.

Family-owned Blenko Glass has been making traditional handmade glassware in Milton since 1893. They create a wide variety of handmade and mouth-blown glass, including glassware, art and keepsakes. Their pieces are made by skilled craftspeople with imaginative designs and exquisite colors.

Fiesta dinnerware, made in Newell, provides the perfect palette for turning dinner into an artistic endeavor. Their vibrant line has made them the most collected dinnerware in history.

You can find Fiesta products at the storefronts in Flatwoods and Newell, as well as many major department stores and online.

With more than 100 active members, the Lost River Artisans Cooperative in Hardy County is preserving the heritage of handmade arts and crafts in West Virginia. They have an on-site educational foundation to teach visitors the craftsmanship developed by the settlers of the mountains and valleys of the West Virginia Highlands and the Appalachians.

Artisanal Food

The Mountain State has a knack for creating delicious flavors and these handcrafted foods are no exception. Be sure to stock up on these West Virginia-made products.

J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works and their “brilliantly clean” artisanal salt is harvested by the hands of a 7th generation salt-making family. It’s 100% local, coming from right underneath the Appalachian Mountains in the Kanawha Valley.

Blue Smoke Salsa’s homemade, kettle-cooked salsas come in 6 varieties, starting at mild and stretching to “triple-x hot.”

In between the mountains of West Virginia, a tiny kitchen churns out authentic Swiss chocolates. Holl’s Chocolate shops in Vienna and Charleston still offer the same authentic chocolates Fritz Holl whipped up in the 50s when he immigrated here from Switzerland, in response to an ad placed by Broughton’s dairy company for a Swiss-trained chocolatier.

DeFluri’s in Martinsburg also crafts fine artisan sweets, including award-winning wine chocolates and fresh cream truffles.

From sweatshirts flaunting the glistening State Capitol building to “West by God” toboggan hats, Kin Ship Goods in Charleston has an array of Mountain State-themed goodies. The owners, Dan and Hillary, print their apparel in house, alongside their 1-eyed, 4-legged beagle buddy, Lazy Hazy.

SustainU clothing in Morgantown makes simple products: mostly T-shirts and hoodies. But they are serious about being eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable— they use recycled materials, save water by avoiding cotton and keep their production in the USA.

South Charleston based luxury leather goods brand, Morgan Rhea is a design and production studio that prides themselves in carefully crafting accessories that tell a story and show the owner’s journey alongside it through the natural wear of the leather.
