Charlotte Ryde Nature Preserve

Albright, WEST VIRGINIA

Charlotte Ryde Nature Preserve is located in Preston County, WV, in a remote part of Cheat Canyon approximately 5 river miles downstream of the town of Albright. The Preserve protects approximately 3 river miles of the Cheat River. The Cheat River is one of the premier whitewater rafting locations in West Virginia.

Charlotte Ryde Nature Preserve is home to a great diversity of species, including rare land snails, bats, cave animals, plants, salamanders and more.

The preserve is open to the public as the Cheat Canyon Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The WMA also includes approximately 8 miles of the Allegheny Trail, a 330-mile hiking trail extending North-South through West Virginia from the Pennsylvania line to the Appalachian Trail on Peters Mountain at the Virginia border.
