CALL FOR ARTISTS – America250 Community Mural – Deadline June 8, 2026

To celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the West Virginia Department of Tourism is seeking proposals from artists to lead a community mural project as part of the state’s America250 celebration. 

The selected project will celebrate America250 and West Virginia’s contribution to the country, while allowing community members to assist in the painting of the mural. The mural should incorporate the West Virginia America250 logo in the design.

Open to: fairs and festivals, local governments, public libraries, schools & 501(c)(3) organizations.

America250 Mural Project

West Virginia made history as the first state in the nation to launch a statewide America250 Mural Project with funding for new and original works, honoring our rich heritage and vibrant communities through art.

Join the Bell-Ringing Ceremony

As part of West Virginia’s statewide celebrations, we invite churches and communities across the state to ring bells in celebration of the principles of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th at 12:00 p.m.

The White House “Founders Museum” exhibit is part of the Freedom250 campaign celebrating the 250th anniversary and can be requested to come to your destination!

West Virginia Celebrates Freedom Pageant

Join us for the West Virginia Freedom 250 Pageant on June 19th at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston, West Virginia. This patriotic celebration honors the spirit, strength, and pride of the Mountain State as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Contestants from across West Virginia will compete for prestigious titles while showcasing confidence, leadership, community involvement, and love for their state and country.
