Celebrating America250 in West Virginia
‘Our great nation has weathered storms and stood tall through thick and thin over the past 250 years. From the brave souls who fought for our freedom to the hardworking people who build our communities every day, America truly is a land of opportunity and resilience.
As we prepare to gather all across the Great State of West Virginia to mark this momentous occasion, let’s reflect on the values that make the Mountain State – and America truly special – freedom, unity and the unwavering spirit of our people. From Bluefield to Wheeling, Ripley to Shepherdstown, and all points in between, join us as we celebrate our stories, our state and our nation.’ – Governor Patrick Morrisey

Mission Statement
The West Virginia Semiquincentennial Commission was created by the West Virginia Legislature, through the passage of House Bill 2916 on April 7, 2021, to support the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. The Legislature finds that the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding is of such historical significance as to warrant its commemoration. The purpose of the Commission is to prepare for and commemorate the semiquincentennial.
