The best places to purchase art in West Virginia

While West Virginia is well-known for its incredible landscapes and jaw-dropping views, it is also home to incredible and talented artists. Many of these artists depict the beauty of the Mountain State’s culture and history, and paint a picture (literally) of how they view Almost Heaven. Throughout the state, you can find local galleries and shops that sell pieces painted by these talented West Virginians.

Creature

Creature Art Gallery in Thomas features works by Seth Pitt. Seth’s work spans across several different series – some of which include “Creatures of the Heart,” “Small Tales,” “Someworld,” and “Put Together Falling Apart.” Seth considers Creature to be “an ever changing solo gallery” in which he moves into new mediums and ideas every few months. While Seth is constantly working on new ideas, he simultaneously remains at work on the series he’s been working on for years.

The White Room

Seth Pitt also co-owns another gallery in Thomas: The White Room. In their words, this is where you can find “extraordinary, individual, novel, distinctive, unusual, remarkable, unexpected, peculiar, striking, uncommon & refreshingly unique works of art.” The entire town of Thomas is actually filled with art. As you walk down East Avenue through Thomas, you can visit other unique art galleries like Off White Studios, Gradient, Lamplight, Santangelo, the Buxton Landstreet Gallery, and the Artspring exhibition space!

Tamarack

Another perfect location to purchase art in Almost Heaven is Tamarack! Tamarack is home to the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery that features more than 500 juried West Virginia artists. Every few months, the gallery hosts a new exhibition featuring different artists and styles of art. The gallery features many different mediums including photography, pottery, paintings and several others.

Art Emporium

One of the mainstays of the popular monthly Charleston Art Walk, Art Emporium has been a large contributor to the Charleston art community since 1985, and features one of the largest frame selections in the area. The gallery is over 2000 square feet in size and hosts monthly exhibits that include West Virginia artists, as well as wide selections of glassware, metal art and sculpture, and stained glass!

There are beautiful works of art everywhere you look in the Mountain State! Where is your favorite place to purchase art in Almost Heaven?
