Test Your Speed and Stamina at These Almost Heaven Marathons
Experience the rolling hills of Almost Heaven in a new way this fall – by racing over them in the fresh air with hundreds of your closest friends.
Conquer one of the most challenging courses, with more than 2,000 feet of elevation gain, at the 5th Annual Morgantown Marathon in Morgantown on Sunday, Sept. 22. On race day, runners from across the globe will come together to run in honor of military heroes, as this event benefits Operation Welcome Home – a local nonprofit organization working to provide veterans with full-time employment. The race includes the Tour Morgantown Marathon, Mon Health Half Marathon, and the Mylan Mountain Mama 8K. Every course winds the runners through various sections of the mountainous city to provide that “Almost Heaven” feeling. All races take place Sunday, Sept. 22 rain or shine. Marshall University Marathon
The Marshall University-St. Mary’s Marathon is a flat, fast and USATF certified course that starts on 3rd Avenue next to Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Runners will race through downtown Huntington past Pullman Square, next to the Ohio River, and through Ritter Park, among other scenic spots in the area. Runners will also race through the Marshall University campus on their way to a goal-line finish at the football stadium. You can even carry a football during the final 100 yards for the full effect. Maratahoners will receive a flower as they enter campus on the second loop and will place it in a basket 200 yards away at Memorial Fountain. This is a memorial for the plane crash victims from Nov. 14, 1970. For more information, visit the website.Find more things to do in Almost Heaven
