Good Shepherd Caregivers will be holding our annual Potter’s Bowl at the Shepherdstown Fire Department on Friday, April 6, 2018, beginning at 6:00pm-doors open at 5:30pm. Choose a pottery item to keep and enjoy the soups, bread, wine, beverages, and desserts. Shop an array of items in the silent & live auctions! Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Davis & Elkins College will host “Imperial Woman Celebrating Pearl S. Buck” with events for all ages throughout the day Saturday, July 8 at historic Graceland Inn and other locations on campus. Activities and times are: 11 a.m., tours of Graceland, free; 11a.m. - 2 p.m., lunch on the veranda soup and sandwich buffet, $12, tickets at door, Graceland; 2-3 p.m., tours of Pearl S. Buck Room and library collections, free, Booth Library/Liberal Arts Hall; 2-3:30 p.m., children’s activities: kite-making, readings and more, free, Graceland front lawn; 3 p.m., ice cream social, free, library bridge; 4 p.m., presentation: My Mother’s House in Hillsboro, W.Va. by Phyllis Lubin-Tyler, free with dinner ticket or donation to Birthplace Fund, Graceland; 5:15 p.m., dinner events begin, beverages and hors d’oeuvres, included in dinner ticket; 6 p.m., formal four-course dinner with Pearl Buck’s Oriental Cookbook recipes, tickets required, $35 per person, beverages extra, Graceland; 7:30 p.m., A Visit with Pearl S. Wednesday, February 1st, will be a special Whiskey Wednesday for us as we will have the legendary folk musician, Bill Staines, play here starting at 7:30pm. Come out and see this wonderful folk artist 40 years in the making. Singing mostly his own songs, Staines has become one of the most popular and durable singers on the folk music scene today, performing nearly 200 concerts a year and driving over 65,000 miles annually. He weaves a blend of gentle wit and humor into his performances and one reviewer wrote, "He has a sense of timing to match the best standup comics".
