Lion Days ART FUN for KIDS – Tuesday, March 26th!

March 26 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

ART FUN for KIDS – Tuesday, March 26th! SIGN YOUR KIDS UP TODAY! It’s FREE!

If you’d like something for your kids to do during Spring Break, here’s a great opportunity! School-age kids – tots, tweens, and yes, even teens, are invited to come to Alderson, WV on Tuesday, March 26th at 2:00 pm to participate in a FREE ART EVENT! Each student will have the opportunity to paint their very own lion mural!

All art materials will be provided by Alderson Main Street, and Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, at 104 N Monroe St., has graciously offered to provide the venue space for this event.
Students will gather at the church at 2 pm where, before beginning to paint, Cheryl Mansley will tell them the fascinating story of French, the lion cub adopted by a woman in Alderson in the 1890s that became the first African lion at the “then new” National Zoo in Washington, D.C. and ended up as part of the Barnum and Bailey Circus!

To sign your child up and get more info, contact Cheryl at cherylmansley@gmail.com, 304-702-0554, or via Facebook. Kids must be signed up ahead of time so we can make sure there are enough paints and paintbrushes for everyone!

This FREE ART EVENT is part of Alderson Main Street’s Lion Days, which will begin on March 18th and culminate on Saturday, March 30th, with a gathering at the Alderson Train Depot at 2:00 pm where the lion’s story will be told, singer-songwriter Molly Sutter will debut her new song about the Alderson lion, and our young artists will display their paintings for all to see before taking them home. (If anyone is unable to attend to pick up their mural, just let Cheryl know and other arrangements will be made.) We hope lots of kids will be able to join in on this and have fun making their own giant painting!
