WV Mountain Highlands

Elkins, WV

West Virginia Mountain Highlands provides tourism information to people traveling to the Potomac Highlands area of West Virginia through internet, social media and printed materials to spread the word about our wonderful region. The region is blessed with nearly all the acreage (over 1 million acres) of federal National Forest lands (the Monongahela and George Washington), including the popular Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, the Dolly Sods and Otter Creek Wilderness Areas, and many more public recreation areas used by outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. These areas, combined with the model state parks and forests, and state wildlife management areas have become the “Year-round Outdoor Playground of the East” for those who love hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, bird watching, camping, backpacking, and sightseeing in the great outdoors in Summer; skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and exploring in Winter.
