John Wesley Methodist Church
Lewisburg, WVJohn Wesley Methodist Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia is a circa 1820 colonial- Greek Revival style brick church featuring a cupola belfry, high ceilings and slave galleries. Additions were made to the front in 1835. In May 1862 during the Battle of Lewisburg the John Wesley Church was struck by a cannonball fired from Confederate artillery, striking the outer wall of the church near the gallery stairs. Following the battle the church was used as a hospital treating wounded from both sides of the conflict. Today, the John Wesley Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is still used as a house of worship.
