Located in the historic Darden Mill in Elkins, the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center shares the stories of the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area’s rich cultural and forest heritage. Our museum showcases how our region's unique natural, historic, and cultural assets make us nationally significant. The Discovery Center acts as a welcome center for the AFNHA where you can get information about other forest heritage sites in the region.
The Discovery Center is ever changing: a new exhibit goes up every year, objects are donated, and interactive elements are added. Our rotating exhibits have explored topics like folk art, wild plant traditions, public lands, ethnicity, ecology, forestry, and more.
