Best summer sizzle & splash

Temperatures are rising, BBQ is smoking and water parks are calling!

These staple summer favorites go hand-in-hand and are the perfect complement to any sunny day in the Mountain State.

Grab your fork and your swimsuit and head out to one of these spots:

BBQ

1. Almost Heaven BBQ Bash, Buckhannon

West Virginia’s only official BBQ competition brings out the true grillmasters to compete for a chance to head to the national competition. And you can sample the secret recipes from each of the teams, or from other BBQ vendors at the event.

2. Blues Brews & BBQ, Snowshoe Mountain

This classic mountain event combines sizzling food samples with smooth, refreshing beers from regional microbreweries. Top that with some of the coolest music around, and you have an event that has been recognized time and time again as one of the best BBQ events in the region.

SPLASH PARKS

1. Splash Zone, Clarksburg

This family-friendly water amusement center in Clarksburg has it ALL: a lazy river, 8 water slides, a lap pool, a padded children’s area and beach-entry pool and lagoon.

2. Sprayground, Hurricane

Sprayground gets kids that are too young for larger pools in on the fun! Hurricane’s 2,000-square-foot concrete pad has 9 fixtures that spray water. The play park, perfect for those hot days, welcomes kids of all ages.

3. Splash Pad at Palatine Park, Fairmont

This free splash pad park on the riverside in Fairmont will soak you with streams of cool water from every direction, with fountains above, jets below and sprayers at every angle in between.

4. Water Ways Water Park, Julian

With 5 waterslides, a lazy river and a Kiddie Island, you won’t run out of splashing fun at Water Ways. But if you need a break before diving back in, take the walking trail or grab a snack and relax at the picnic shelter.

Where’s your summer spot?
