5 Jaw-Dropping Autumn Sunset Spots

The only thing that makes an Almost Heaven sunset better is the backdrop of fiery autumn leaves. Take the time to slow down and breathe while watching the golden sun slowly fall beneath the trees. Visit any or all of these spots this season to witness a painted horizon of your dreams.

Bickle Knob Observation Tower

High atop Bickle Knob, the Bickle Knob Observation tower boasts 360-degree panoramic vistas of the surrounding forest. Located approximately 10 miles northeast of Elkins, take the winding Forest Road 91 to the top of the mountain. Once at the top, the tower can be reached with less than a 5-minute walk from the small parking area.

Lindy Point Overlook

A crown jewel tucked within Blackwater Falls State Park, Lindy Point Overlook is one of the most photographed spots in the entire state. Located past the sled run area, this trail overlooks the Blackwater Canyon at 3,000 feet above. A flat and short out-and-back path, this stunning view is perfect for the entire family.

Dolly Sods

An oasis within the Monongahela National Forest, Dolly Sods Wilderness spans more than 17,000 acres and is home to some of the most untouched natural beauty the Mountain State has to offer. Here, spectacular sunsets are the norm and the autumn hues only add to the majesty. The mix of rocky plains and vibrant flora are a sight like no other.

Long Point Trail

When visiting the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, hiking Long Point Trail is a must-do. The 1.5-mile trek though a wooded terrain is rewarded with a one-of-a-kind vantage point of the impressive New River Gorge Bridge. Especially remarkable at sunset, the rocks make the perfect spot for lying back and taking in a radiant sunset.

Bolar Lookout Tower

Nestled within Pipestem Resort State Park, Bolar Lookout Tower offers a new perspective on a West Virginia sunset. Discover yourself in awe at the miles of rolling hills and valleys as far as the eye can see. Extend your visit and book a stay in the lodge or in a personal cozy cabin in the woods.
