West Virginia Wine & jazz – can you name a better duo?
There is no better place to enjoy the combo of wine & jazz than at the Wine & Jazz Music Festival. Taking place Saturday June 23 from 2-10 p.m. on the University of Charleston lawn, this FestivALL activity will not disappoint! Not sure what to expect? Open for all ages, this festival is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture by listening to relaxing jazz brought to you by West Virginia artists, sampling the unique wines created from West Virginia vineyards, and savor tasty dishes from local eateries all while taking in the amazing view of the gold capitol dome across the water.
All that Jazz
The Wine & Jazz Music Festival offers a wide array of jazz performances ranging from solo performers to multiple member jazz bands. No matter the amount of performers, each entertainer creates a fun and relaxing atmosphere for all to enjoy! This year’s performers include “Have Your Herd” Marshall University Jazz Combo, The Steve Himes Connection with Vocalist Danielle Connard, Bob Thompson Unit, Lao Tizer with Eric Marienthal and Karen Briggs, and Black Masala. The whole day will be filled with soothing jazz. Make sure to come early to get a front row spot!
Sipping on Wine
You do not have to be a wine connoisseur to take partake in this festival. This is the perfect opportunity to try it all from moscato to cabernet and everything in-between. With many vendors placed around the grassy lawn, there will be plenty of options to fit your wine needs. Each year, there are vendors from across the state — from Kenco Farms located in Sutton to Stone Road Vineyard located in Elizabeth. Other vendors that will be participating this year include Batton Hollow Winery, Forks of Cheat Winery, Healthberry Farm, Kirkwood Winery, and Lambert Vintage Wine. Each ticket to the festival includes a commemorative stemless wine glass perfect for housing your favorite wine while enjoying the jazz performances with family and friends.
Getting there
Scared you’ll miss out on other FestivALL events going on downtown? Not to worry, River Queen River Taxi will be there for transportation needs. This unique riverboat will allow you to bask in the views from the Kanawha River during your ride from The University of Charleston to Haddad River Front Park.
