West Virginia’s capital city turns into a work of art during this festival

This fall is the perfect opportunity to visit and explore Charleston, the Mountain State’s capital city. During this time, one of the state’s most exciting festivals takes place: FestivALL Fall. Here, you’ll discover what it means when a “City becomes a Work of Art.” The festival is Oct. 18-21 and includes many incredible artists, events and performances. Here’s a taste of what you can experience during this fun-filled festival:

Oct. 18

Stroll the charming streets of Charleston during the Downtown Charleston ArtWalk. This is the perfect chance to immerse yourself in all things Charleston. The Downtown ArtWalk is a free, self-guided walking tour of Charleston’s shops, galleries and businesses that feature incredible regional art and performances. Participating businesses include Black Sheep Burrito and Brews, The Clay Center, Taylor Books, The Purple Moon and many more.

Oct. 20

Head to the East End Bazaar for Hops and Heat, an Appalachian craft beer and chili cookoff event. Hops and Heat will feature over 80 craft beers from more than 20 Appalachian breweries, and someone will be crowned the Bazaar’s best chili in the competition. Drinker tickets cost $35 and include 5 oz. samples of beer, unlimited chili samples, three 12 oz. beer tickets and one branded tasting cup. Nondrinker tickets are $20 and include unlimited chili samples, as well as access to East End Bazaar food and artisan vendors and the concert featuring Suga Grits.

Oct. 21

Attend the Carriage Trail Leaf Walk from 1-4 p.m. and surround yourself in the gorgeous colors of the state’s fall foliage. Along the way enjoy vignettes from local theater and dance groups as well as live music. You might even see gorgeous views of Charleston along the way.

After your walk, head to Mountain Stage and experience this NPR distributed live music radio show for yourself. On Oct. 21, the Bottle Rockets, Amy Helm and John R. Miller will be performing, and you won’t want to miss this incredible show! Tickets will be available online, by phone at 877-987-6487 and at Taylor Books starting Friday, Aug. 17.

Oct. 20-21

Visit the stunning Woman’s Club on Charleston’s East End for the 6th FestivALL Harvest Art Fair. Here, you’ll find fine art and fine crafts from more than 30 artisans. The Harvest Art Fair will also include free make and take activities and face painting by Alto Designs.
