Tourism Field Trip Offering’s
Riverquest Educational Ecology Tour
This tour students will study the health of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers, which are major tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. They will accomplish this through macroinvertebrate collection, identification, and water testing. Students will receive an introduction to pollution, how it enters and impacts our waterways, and how we are all a part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. This field trip can take place on land, or on water. If it takes place on water, students will be taught how to canoe. Our guides will also address working in the outdoor recreation industry in West Virginia.

Middle school and high school students: No bare feet or flip-flops are allowed. Strap-on sandals, Crocs with a heel strap, old sneakers, or water shoes are all good options.

Educational Benefits
Studies have shown that people who spend time outside and form connections to nature have more pro-environmental attitudes than people who do not spend much time outside. By getting students outside in nature, we are helping them to make connections to nature and take ownership of our impact on the environment. They will see how they are a part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and how the health of the Bay is dependent on the actions of every citizen in the watershed. They will also witness the logistics of what it takes to run an outdoor recreation business.
