Visit These Historic Almost Heaven Homes This Holiday Season
Many of West Virginia’s most historic homes are open for tours during the holidays. Take a step back in time to experience the wonder of the holiday season at some of these historic homes.
1. Bramwell Christmas Tour of Homes

Experience Christmas in this cozy town that was once home to the most millionaires per capita in the U.S. The stately mansions built by coal barons at the turn of the 20th century reflect Victorian and Tudor styles, with leaded and stained-glass windows, wide porches, turrets and gables, and roofs made of copper, slate or tile. Interpreters will be on hand to tell stories of the early days as you marvel at the crystal chandeliers, ornate woodwork and glittering holiday décor of these grand old homes.
2. A Henderson Christmas Evening

Built in 1859 by sons of Scottish immigrant Alexander Henderson, the 29-room Victorian era, Italianate-style home overlooks the Ohio River in Williamstown and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The home is open for a special evening tour that includes great food and live music. Docents in period costumes will greet you before you set off on a self-guided tour of the mansion to see the Christmas trees and special displays.
3. St. Albans Christmas Historic Homes Tour

The St. Albans Historical Society will be hosting its 27th Annual Christmas Historic Homes Tour with several historical homes and buildings open for the tour. Shuttles will be taking visitors this year to the various properties and making a continuous loop. The tour will begin at the St. Albans Historical Society building at 404 Fourth Ave., adjacent to the C&O Depot.
4. Parkersburg Victorian Christmas Homes Tour & Tea
Dec. 7 & 8, 2019
Several stunning historic homes in the Julia-Ann Square Historic District that are decorated in festive Christmas decor will open their doors for visitors. Tours will be escorted by guides in period attire, and homeowners will share the history of their homes. A lavish Victorian tea will also be served.
5. Adaland Mansion Christmas Open House with Santa’s Bake Shop
Dec. 7, 2019
This stately brick home in Philippi is stunning during the holidays. Christmas trees with different themes adorn nearly every room of the 1870 Greek Revival mansion. Stop in for a cookie, a cup of coffee or hot tea while you visit and take in the twinkling lights, red velvet ribbons, garlands and wreaths.
