Uncork your creativity at these 5 paint & sip spots in WV
Pull up a chair and pop the cork, then get ready to create your very own masterpiece at one of these fun paint & sip parties. Canvas and art supplies are included with the session, so you don’t have to bring anything but yourself and your favorite beverage. An instructor guides the class in step-by-step instruction, so there’s no need to worry about where to start or what to do.
1. The Wow Factory
The Wow Factory in Morgantown offers guided paint & sip classes for adults as well as separate classes for children ages 5-12. Each event features a different theme, from landscapes to still life to animals to holidays — even West Virginia themes. The youngsters will love being able to emulate mom or dad by making a canvas painting of their own with a simpler “kid friendly” design. If you’re feeling crafty, you might want to check out some of the studio’s other class offerings, including mosaics, glass fusing, clay handbuilding and pottery painting.
2. Paint and Sip Studio
Paint and Sip Studio in Huntington offers guided painting and craft classes for children and adults featuring a variety of colorful and unique themes. One of its newest designs that’s sure to be a hit is the Memorial Fountain at Marshall University. Special classes include Date Night, a fun icebreaker that helps alleviate that first-date awkwardness. One price gets a couple two canvasses to paint! Or, tackle a team-building exercise in which each member paints a section of a larger design. When finished, the team must arrange the canvases to create the complete picture—just like working a jigsaw puzzle.
3. Moon River Studio
Moon River Studio in Wheeling promises a fun night of laughter and creativity as budding artists try their hand at seasonal art, beach scenes, or even local landmarks like the Wheeling Suspension Bridge or the New River Gorge Bridge. A favorite class has been the Paint Your Pet workshop. You provide the studio with a photo of your furry friend and a pre-sketched canvas will be waiting for you upon their arrival. This class is a bit more challenging, so it’s recommended that students have intermediate experience or try out one of the beginner classes first.
4. Uncork and Create
Uncork and Create in Huntington and Charleston provides guided painting classes for adults and separate painting classes for children. You can also “uncork and create” while you learn how to whip up a tasty dish. Sip a glass of vino while you learn to make gourmet appetizers like Arancini (deep-fried, cheese-stuffed rice balls) and homemade Italian red sauce, or even roll your own sushi! Participants are welcome to eat their creations or take them home to share with friends and family. Ingredients, supplies and equipment are provided.
5. Urban Easel
Urban Easel in Shepherdstown hosts private in-home paint and sip parties in addition to paint parties at different public locales throughout the region. Not only that, the little ones can join some of the events, too! The art school hosts special painting workshops the whole family can enjoy together, like the holiday-themed Painting & Pancakes, in which participants choose between one of two canvas painting designs or a clay ornament to paint on their own. The event cost includes supplies, cookies and a hot chocolate bar. Pancakes, brunch and drinks, while not included, are available for purchase at the event.
