This Week’s Fall Colors Will Leave You in Awe – Week of 10/15/2025

With the leaves finally changing, Almost Heaven is ready to treat your eyes to its jaw-dropping hues. This is the perfect week to break out your fall flannel and enjoy some of the early stages of fall in West Virginia.

Continue checking for peaking spots on our Live Leaf Map and explore all the nearby hidden gems this week in the Mountain State.

Weston 🏛️

In the heart of Lewis County, Weston is the perfect stop, just off I-79, to relax and explore the fall colors. Take a break and learn more about the rich heritage of the glass industry at The Museum of American Glass. Take a tour of the large collection of handmade art, glass, marbles, dishes and more. You can even take a piece of West Virginia history home with you. 🏛️

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is the perfect spot to explore fall color. This historic facility, surrounded by deciduous trees, served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill in the mid-1800s. Explore museum rooms, take night-time paranormal tours, stay overnight for ghost hunts and much more. 👻

Stonewall Resort State Park 🏕️

Make the short drive from Weston to Stonewall Resort State Park. In fall fashion, take a swing on the golf course, cast a line in the scenic lake, roast s’mores at the lakeside fire pit or treat yourself to a luxurious spa session. You will love the lake views, accompanied by fall hues, spanning approximately 1,900 pristine acres. Extend your stay and choose from classic and luxury cottages, 40 campsites and 191 rooms in the state park’s cozy lodge.

While here, get your phone ready and take a picture-perfect fall selfie on the Almost Heaven swing!

Before you head to your next stop ☕️

It’s always nice to fuel up before you take on your next West Virginia Adventure. Make a slight detour to Mount Nebo for a seasonal drink from Appalachian Coffee House!

New River Gorge National Park and Preserve 🪂

One of the nation’s newest national parks, the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, is where you want to be this week. Visit Fayetteville on Saturday, October 18, to experience West Virginia’s largest single-day festival, Bridge Day. This annual event attracts thousands of adventurers from around the world to watch BASE jumpers take the daring dive over the New River Gorge Bridge. Stroll the bridge and browse the hundreds of food and shopping vendors.

Yes, the Instagram Reels that you see us post of the brave BASE jumpers are real! 🪂🤯

Go on an epic whitewater rafting trip on the New River, widely known as the second-oldest river in the world. Experience world-class rafting wherever you are in the Gauley River National Recreation Area with rapids ranging from class III to V. Plan an adventure during the weekend after Labor Day, which is when the Summersville Lake Dam starts releasing water into the Gauley River to create “Gauley Season.”
