Fayetteville’s Wild Weekend

We want to invite you to come on an adventure with us and discover all of the nature that Fayetteville has to offer. We are celebrating what makes Fayetteville so wild with a nature festival from August 10th through the 12th. From educational programs designed specifically for youngsters and adults to guided hikes in the New River Gorge along with adventure activities. Fayetteville’s Wild Weekend will offer a variety of activities and workshops for all ages and interests. Come and celebrate the features, creatures, and culture that make Fayetteville the unique place that it is. Get up close and personal with the Snakes of West Virginia as Roy Moose kicks off our events Friday. Stay tuned for a full schedule of events from nature paddle boarding tours to salamander talks. Solar Music Fest

Back Creek Valley Homesteading Festival

A day of workshops on topics and skills of homesteading, self sufficiency, outdoor survival, bushcraft and preparedness. Also there will be vendors, food, pony rides, horse drawn carriage rides, live bluegrass music, kids activities and more. $5 for adults, kids under 12 get in free Held on the scenic grounds of the Lazy-A Campground: 15 minutes from Martinsburg and 40 minutes from Shepherdstown or Harpers Ferry, WV. Fly In Festival and WV State Flatpick Contest

WV State Flatpick Guitar Contest and Workshops is proudly partnered with Fly in Festival. The Fly In Festival is a bluegrass, old time, Americana, acoustic music festival. Some of the region's best bands and performers will be featured along with the officially sanctioned WV flatpick contest. The event offers airplane tours, sky diving exhibitions, camping, vendors, and food and drinks. The festival enjoys a venue on the beautiful Ohio River just north of Huntington, WV. The festival grounds will open the evening before the event for camping, jamming, and gathering. Some of the region's best Old Time, Bluegrass and Americana Bands will be performing, as-well-as Air Plane Tours, Sky Diving, and Camping. Tickets are $25/Day, $40/Weekend. May Day Festival

Watoga Art in the Park

Watoga Art in the Park – bringing together artists and the great outdoors. Watoga Art in the Park features a great fun- filled weekend for families set in one of West Virginia's most beautiful parks – Watoga State Park. The juried fine art and craft fair will feature some of the region's most impressive artists and craftspeople showcasing jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, photography, painting and much more Find that perfect gift for a loved one or yourself. Along with showcasing fine art for purchase, there will be eight professional artists, instructing in 22 workshops throughout the two-day event to help you create your own work of art. Learn pastels, watercolors, or acrylics from accomplished artists, watch and participate in wood-fire pottery or blacksmithing, make your own mask and paint or decorate it, check out white oak basketry, as well as yoga and art therapy. Join in one or all three nature walks lead by a Watoga State Park Naturalist. Learn about birds and then return to paint what you observed, make a clay dish using some of the natural materials you'll find along your walk, or check out the hike where you learn to identify animal footprints. In the evening you can participate in an Owl Prowl and the even make owl houses to take home with you. There will be great music both days as well as a variety of foods. Kids Corner open all day. Wild Edibles Festival

Don’t call them “weeds”! Our workshops and nature walks will show you food preparations and the medicinal properties of Pocahontas County’s wild and wonderful spring plants. Enjoy a weekend of fun, learn to forage and prepare tasty dishes and teas. We will give you ideas about how to make use of those pesky invasive plants and the hardy flowers in your yard. Doug Wood will be the featured naturalist. Doug is known to WV nature lovers for his “Tracking and Woods Lore” workshops, “History Alive!” portrayal of Ostenace and expert plant knowledge of wild plants and their uses. He is also an instructor with the WV Master Naturalist program. Doug will speak Friday evening and lead a nature walk on Saturday. Breakfast bake sale: goodies, coffee and herbal teas will be for sale Saturday morning during registration. Treat yourself to a delicious and unique “Wild Edibles” lunch. Cheat River Festival

First weekend in May, every year – Cheat Fest 2017 is May 5th and 6th, 2017. Gates open Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The festival grounds in Albright, West Virginia will once again transform into a haven for boaters, music lovers, and families. Bands from all over Appalachia will entertain crowds with live music. Held rain or shine, Cheat Fest is always a good time! There will be activities for the whole family including kids' tents and parade, delicious food, art market, 5K, downriver race, vendors, live entertainment, workshops, silent auction and raffles. Kids under twelve are free! Kids of all ages can congregate at the ever-growing Kid’s Tent from noon ’till 5:00 p.m. on Saturday for a host of hands-on activities.

The Allegheny Echoes Summer Workshops

Allegheny Echoes is the concept of a group of West Virginia musicians and writers who wish to promote, support, preserve, and teach their own art without distracting influences. Their goal is to provide an accurate representation of West Virginia art that is not packaged and altered to appeal to a specific market. There is a strong emphasis placed on West Virginia tradition with an overall look toward the embracing Appalachian culture. The Summer Workshops offer a chance for students of all ages and abilities to come together to learn, appreciate, and enjoy our West Virginia ways.

Back Home Appalachian Arts & Music Festival

The second annual FREE Back Home Appalachian Arts & Music Festival will feature entertainment by the Del McCoury Band, David Grisman, The Travelin' McCourys, The SteelDrivers, Billy Strings, The Last Waltz Live, The Grass Is Dead, David Gans, and many others. The festival will also feature West Virginia artisans and crafters. The Back Home Festival is sponsored by Visit Wetzel County.

WEST VIRGINIA STORYTELLING FESTIVAL AT PRICKETTS FORT

Augusta Festival and Craft Fair

The Augusta Festival celebrates Appalachian heritage arts and folk life with a juried craft fair, live music, dancing, workshops, craft demonstrations and children’s activities. This year’s juried Craft Fair includes more than 50 of the region’s finest artisans selling their unique creations. Concessions will be available.

Twin Falls State Park – (3/18-20) – GUITAR WEEKEND

Featuring Robin Kessinger, Robert Shafer and Jim Ritchey. The weekend is for anyone who is interested in learning how to play guitar or improving the skills that you may already possess. You'll be pickin with the best. Reservations are required. Call Twin Falls State Park at the number below. Kessinger and Shafer are well known nationally as award winning flatpickers. Having taught guitar extensively and performing annually throughout the world, Kessinger and Shafer present guitar workshops at different locations throughout the year. Ritchey is a singer-songwriter from Greensboro, North Carolina. His songwriting skills can be heard in "Tennessee Bottle," a song recorded by Kenny Rogers. Ritchey performs regularly in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The workshop begins Friday, March 18, with a concert by the three artists, followed by guitar jams with participants and presenters. Throughout the day Saturday, the three guitarists will present workshops on flatpicking, fiddle tunes, swing music, voice accompaniment and blues. A Saturday evening open-stage concert by workshop participants will conclude the day. Participants will have space in the resort facility to jam throughout the weekend. The retreat will conclude Sunday at noon. "The" guitar weekend lodging package including meals (Saturday lunch, Sunday breakfast, and all breaks throughout the workshop) and instruction. Rates for two people staying two nights are $214 when staying in a lodge room, $138 for single occupancy; or $240 for two people staying two nights in a cabin.

Culturefest

Culturefest World Music & Arts Festival is a weekend-long immersion in the creative arts on a magical mountaintop in WV. Culturefest events include but are not limited to: world music, dance, performance art, workshops, artisan vendors, drum circles, Kids' Village, healing arts, camping, community art projects, parade, after hours cabaret, good vibes and beautiful mountain scenery.

Tygart Lake State Park – 2/19 – CREATIVE WRITING WEEKEND

Creative Writing Weekend. A creative writing weekend with WVs own, instructor Colleen Anderson is a special weekend and time. Open to men, women and students ages 16 an older, this annual weekend is a must. Starting Friday evening and concluding Sunday. Tatting is an 18th century form of lace making that originated in Europe. This class is open to anyone who would like to build their skill into a more advanced lace maker. Weather you need a refresher or want to go beyond just making rings, this is the class for you. Students will learn to use a second shuttle to make chains in your tatting. Learn the fundamentals of fly casting, equipment selection, and basic knots in this one day class. Come out and learn the basics of fly fishing from one of the top fly fishermen in West Virginia. ShockaCon Horror/Sci-Fi Convention

Celebrity Guests: Celebrity guests Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Steve Johnson (Ghostbusters), Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave), Oliver Robins (Poltergeist), and Mountain Monsters John Tice, Willy McQuillan, and Wild Bill will be presenting panels and demos and signing autographs all weekend. Regional musicians Weird Paul Petroskey, The Renfields, OrViLL REX, Charlie Ant Eaterr, Miniature Giant, and Hurl Brickbat will perform, as well as belly dance troupes Bint Il Nahar and Naughty Samadhi. The TriState Transylvanians, who produce shadow casts of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and other classics, will stage an original narrative produced via a mash up of cult films, and River City Youth Ballet Ensemble will demonstrate how to do the Thriller dance! The weekend has a slew of interactive and educational events, including acting, fx makeup, home haunt prop building, costuming and cosplay, paranormal investigation, and the procedures and practices of embalming - there is truly something for everyone! There are chances to win fabulous prizes in many contests, such as the adult and kid's costume contests, scream contests, and mummy wrapping, and unique shopping with specialty vendors.
