Wheeling Symphony presents “East Meets West”

Tan Dun, Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov André Raphel, conductor Jennifer Frautschi, violin A masterful program fusing the music and culture of East and West traditions. Music Director André Raphel examines the percussive, sweeping rhythm of Tan Dun’s “Symphonic Poem of 3 Notes” and the dazzling, colorful orchestration in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” (inspired by Arabian Nights). Two time Grammy nominated violinist Jennifer Frautschi joins the WSO performing Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto,” a dramatic lyrical showpiece.

WVSO welcomes Springfield Symphony Orchestra Music Director Kevin Rhodes. The program includes Massenet The Last Sleep of the Virgin; Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3, Viktor Valkov, piano of Astral Artists; and Liszt Faust Symphony.
