Buddy Guy

Buddy Guy is one of the most celebrated blues guitarists of his generation. For more than half a century, he has blended the genres of blues and rock and roll like no other performer. His early work at Chess Records where he could be found sitting in with Muddy Waters, and his early gigs in Chicago where he became famous for his fiery guitar work and flashy stage style led him to the pinnacle of the blues ‘n’ rock genre for which he is known. Guy has earned seven Grammy Awards—Best Blues Album (2015), Best Contemporary Blues Album (2010), Best Traditional Blues Album (2003), Best Contemporary Blues Album – or Contemporary Blues Recording (1991, 1993, 1995) and the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2015). He has received the National Medal of the Arts as well as the Kennedy Center Honors and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 where he was presented with his award by Eric Clapton and B.B. King. It’s no coincidence that Guy counts King among his influences along with T-Bone Walker and Otis “Lightin’ Slim” Hicks but he is also credited with influencing the careers of Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Don’t miss your chance to experience one of Buddy Guy’s legendary live concerts in the intimacy of the Creative Arts Center Clay Theatre!
