John Ellison, Live at ACE Adventure Resort

International legend John Ellison, singer songwriter of the classic hit "(She's) Some Kind of Wonderful" is bringing it to the table at ACE Adventure Resort with his all natural, low sodium, no MSG and gluten free gourmet blend of seasonings. Ellison is scheduled to perform on the deck of The Lost Paddle at ACE, Saturday, July 7th at 8:00 pm to celebrate the holiday weekend and announce a partnership between ACE and Ellison's Some Kind of Wonderful Gourmet Seasoning. The show is free, family friendly and open to the public. Ellison, born in a shack built from driftwood on the bank of the Kanawha River in Fayette County and raised in the coalfields of southern West Virginia, pursued his musical dreams and became the songwriter of one of the most recorded and played songs in music history: "(She's) Some Kind of Wonderful" was released in 1967 and gained notoriety with its catchy tune and lyrics. Today Ellison continues to perform on stages around the world bringing people together with music, and now around the dinner table. In 2001, John started Some Kind of Wonderful Foods to produce his own recipes and gourmet seasoning. The seasoning is his own blend, all natural, gluten free, no MSG and low sodium. ACE's kitchen uses Ellison's gourmet seasonings on all their wings as well as a few other food items on The Lost Paddle menu. Try the sauceless wings - they are Some Kind of Wonderful. Ellison's soulful funk performance will be followed by the local folk pop rock band The Parachute Brigade.

Irish Road Bowling – Pipestem Resort State Park

Irish Road Bowling consists of a ball made of iron and steel that is heavy enough to pick up speed, yet small enough for any person to handle. Besides the basic rules and terms, all you do is hurl this 28 oz. sized "bowl" with an underhand motion over a 1 to 2 mile country road and see how far it goes! Scored like golf, the fewest number of shots from the start to the finish line wins. Irish Road Bowling is similar to fast pitch softball, except with a running start. It's also like bowling if you had enough room to run 10 or 15 yards. Irish Road Bowling is ideal for young athletes or seniors who are looking to enjoy a scenic walk on a country road, combined with an ancient and exciting, but not overly strenuous, sport! A magnificent view into the Bluestone River Gorge, Appalachian Spring colors in southern West Virginia, and one of the state's very best road bowling roads, combine for an unforgettable weekend. A second qualifier will be held at the Strawberry Festival near Buckhannon, May 20, 21. Top men and top women scorers from each qualifier - Pipestem and Strawberry - advance to the West Virginia IRBA Men's and Women’s Singles State Championship, June 23, 24, at Blackwater Falls State Park, Davis, WV. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever follows the outrageous shenanigans of the Herdman siblings, or “the worst kids in the history of the world.” The siblings take over the annual Christmas pageant in a hilarious yet heartwarming tale involving the Three Wise Men, a ham, scared shepherds, and six rowdy kids. Ralph, Imogene, Leroy, Claude, Ollie, and Gladys Herdman are an awful bunch. They set fire to Fred Shoemaker’s toolshed, blackmailed Wanda Pierce to get her charm bracelet, and smacked Alice Wendelken across the head. And that’s just the start! When the Herdmans show up at church for the free snacks and suddenly take over the Christmas pageant, the other kids are shocked. It’s obvious that they’re up to no good.
