Shrek the Musical

Everyone's favorite ogre is back in the hilarious stage spectacle based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit film. SHREK the MUSICAL will be presented three weeks at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in Chief Ligan State Park on June 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, and July 1st. Shows starts at 8:30pm. Advance tickets can be purchased at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3373012. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears. "Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

Steel Magnolias Dinner Theatre

The Aracoma Story Inc. will present “Steel Magnolias” at the Logan Country Club as a dinner theater. The play takes place in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married). The outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." It is filled with hilarious repartee and a few humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, the ladies find themselves with the sudden realization of their own mortality, but they also draw on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. Tickets can be purchased at 304-752-0253. Tickets are $30, which includes dinner. The play will run April 5th, 6th, 7th and April 12th, 13th, 14th. Those dates start at 6:30pm.
