Travels with Darley – Exploring Wild and Wonderful West Virginia

See live snakes, make a seed bomb, explore the galaxy, and enjoy free ice cream sundaes - all during this amazing event! Join us at the Pocahontas County Opera House in Marlinton as we celebrate two Travels with Darley episodes featuring West Virginia treasures such as Spruce Knob, Seneca Rocks, Cranberry Glades, Cass Scenic Railroad and showcase adventure recreation activities here in the Mountain State. Hands on activity booths will begin at 5pm, followed by screenings of the episodes, a sundae social, and then meeting the cast. Fun for all ages!

Wild Edibles Festival

Don’t call them “weeds”! Our workshops and nature walks will show you food preparations and the medicinal properties of Pocahontas County’s wild and wonderful spring plants. Enjoy a weekend of fun, learn to forage and prepare tasty dishes and teas. We will give you ideas about how to make use of those pesky invasive plants and the hardy flowers in your yard. Doug Wood will be the featured naturalist. Doug is known to WV nature lovers for his “Tracking and Woods Lore” workshops, “History Alive!” portrayal of Ostenace and expert plant knowledge of wild plants and their uses. He is also an instructor with the WV Master Naturalist program. Doug will speak Friday evening and lead a nature walk on Saturday. Breakfast bake sale: goodies, coffee and herbal teas will be for sale Saturday morning during registration. Treat yourself to a delicious and unique “Wild Edibles” lunch. Soups, wraps, herbal teas will be available to purchase. Vendors on Saturday. Held at Watoga State Park. Attendance is free. Greenbrier River Trail Bike Trek

This is the 32nd year of the American Lung Association's Greenbrier River Trail Bike Trek! Join us May 16-19, 2019 for a 3-day, 100-mile ride along the Greenbrier River Trail State Park. Cyclists with varying levels of experience are invited. All meals, lodging and transportation included, as well as sag service, medics and mechanics.

The Music and the Mountains Old Time Festival

The Music and the Mountains Old Time Festival will showcase and celebrate Appalachian culture and craft. This community based, family friendly event will bring together local artisans and musicians to provide an opportunity for our local community and visitors to experience Appalachian craft demonstrations, old time music and dance traditions along with regional food. Friday night's concert will feature old time, traditional Appalachian music. Saturday afternoon events will include: local craft demonstrations, a display of regional archival photographs, old time children's games and activities, an open old time community jam, a cornbread contest and a soup bean dinner. Saturday night will offer beginner square dance lessons and a square dance bard and caller.

Art in the Park

Arts and crafts are featured at Watoga! Juried artists will be at the picnic shelter area Saturday September 2 and Sunday, September 3, 2017. The 51st Annual Pioneer Days

YES! Pioneers is back with new activities and events. Great homecoming style festival celebrating 51 wonderful years as the premiere festival in the region. Featuring bluegrass music, a fireman's parade, a grand parade, food concessions, old-fashioned games, and demonstrations.

The Allegheny Echoes Summer Workshops

Allegheny Echoes is the concept of a group of West Virginia musicians and writers who wish to promote, support, preserve, and teach their own art without distracting influences. Their goal is to provide an accurate representation of West Virginia art that is not packaged and altered to appeal to a specific market. There is a strong emphasis placed on West Virginia tradition with an overall look toward the embracing Appalachian culture. The Summer Workshops offer a chance for students of all ages and abilities to come together to learn, appreciate, and enjoy our West Virginia ways.

31st Annual Great Greenbrier River Race

The Great Greenbrier River Race is a triathlon held in Marlinton, consisting of a 3 mile run, a 4 mile river trip by kayak or canoe, and a 10 mile bike ride. This triathlon takes place along the Greenbrier River Trail and is for the young and old alike. The Great Greenbrier River Race is a family friendly event, and people come from 13 different states to enjoy the event. It's also become a great spectator sport so if you're not in it, come out and cheer for the rest of them.

The Bing Brothers featuring Jack Krack

For over 40 years, The Bing Brothers have played their hard-driving brand of string band music from Canada to Florida – from Spain to England, and from Australia, to Ireland and Scotland. Their sound has been formed in the West Virginia mountains, and they remain true to their roots. Yet The Bing Brothers are highly versatile, playing selections in old time and bluegrass, as well as traditional Irish songs and ragtime.
