Moon Over Buffalo

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the Alban Arts Center presents the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo on February 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25. Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, formerly a couple of Broadway stars, who have taken their run-down touring company to Buffalo, New York. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in repertory with five actors. But, on-stage harmony is compromised when George performs an off-stage infidelity, impregnating the company’s ingénue. When Charlotte learns of this, she prepares to run away with the family lawyer, sending lightweight George on a grief-stricken drinking binge. On the brink of a disastrous split-up, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body. Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo is a fast-paced, hilarious screwball comedy in the old tradition, a throwback farce, truly a valentine to the stage. Fridays and Saturdays: 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.; Sundays from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Tickets: $15 for Adults; $10 for Seniors/Students

Dancing at Lughnasa

Written by Brian Friel Performance Dates: March 25, 26, 31; April 1, 2 | 8 PM Curtain Directed by Seret Cole and starring GREGG LOWLEY, TAWNYA DRAKE, MARA MONAGHAN, TRICIA HEIN, ZABRINA EVANS, GRETCHEN ROSS, JOEY ZAVILLA and THOMAS IAN LYALL. Five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in l936. We meet them at the time of the festival of Lughnasa, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. The action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him, his mother and four maiden aunts. He is only seven in 1936, the year his elderly uncle, a priest, returns after serving for twenty-five years as a missionary in a Ugandan leper colony. For the young boy, two other disturbances occur that summer. The sisters acquire their first radio, whose music transforms them from correct Catholic women to shrieking, stomping banshees in their own kitchen. And he meets his father for the first time, a charming Welsh drifter who strolls up the lane and sweeps his mother away in an elegant dance across the fields. From these small events spring the cracks that destroy the foundation of the family forever.
