31st Annual Great Greenbrier River Race

The Great Greenbrier River Race is a triathlon held in Marlinton, consisting of a 3 mile run, a 4 mile river trip by kayak or canoe, and a 10 mile bike ride. This triathlon takes place along the Greenbrier River Trail and is for the young and old alike. The Great Greenbrier River Race is a family friendly event, and people come from 13 different states to enjoy the event. It's also become a great spectator sport so if you're not in it, come out and cheer for the rest of them.

North Bend State Park – June 4 – KAYAK BASICS

Outdoor Weekend - Kayak Basics is a 2 hour excursion designed to introduce and improve basic flat water skills and enjoying the natural environment North Bend State Park has to offer from a different perspective. This quest includes safety information, balance and basic paddle strokes and all the required equipment. The program is at 6:00 p.m. The cost is $30 and includes all equipment and instruction. Meet at the Cokeley Campground Bathhouse. Registration in advance at the lodge front desk in person or by phone for this class/activity/program. Registration is open until June 5. North Bend State Park Rangers and Guides provide instruction on some of today's more popular outdoor recreation pursuits. During these weekends we are offering these lessons in an affordable group lesson format. Along with skill development we will also be offering environmental appreciation/education sessions. This is an Outdoors in Parks recommended activity. A Mountain Biking Basics is also available.

Little Kanawha River Trail’s Inaugural Folk Float

New event in conjunction with the West Virginia State Folk Festival. Beginning at the Sand Fork access site, exit 79 off I-79, travel 13 miles to the Sand Fork access site on the left, or two miles from the town stop light, floaters will head towards Glenville and finish at the Brooklyn access site. You should arrive just in time to view the town parade at 11:00 and join the children’s activities at noon in the park!

GREAT BUFFALO CANOE RACE

Calling all kayak and canoe enthusiasts! It’s time for the Annual Great Buffalo Canoe Race. Registration starts at 8 am at Hough Park and the race begins at 9 am. The race ends at the walking bridge in Farmington and there’ll be a small reception at the Farmington Fire Dept following the race. Must have a life jacket and children under 15 must have a waiver signed by an adult.
