Funeral Parade and Downtown Streetfest

The Charleston Area Alliance Downtown Streetfest summer block party series will return Saturday, Sept. 17 along Capitol Street between Kanawha Boulevard and Virginia Street with local favorite Qiet. Meet up with friends and family between 4:30 and 9 p.m. for live music, food and drinks, kid's activities and pop-up shops. Plus the Kanawha River Navy will host its Annual Funeral Parade in conjunction with Downtown Streetfest. The Parade will proceed down Capitol Street from Donnally Street, turning left along Virginia Street, right along Hale Street and ending at Downtown Streetfest, along the corner of Capitol Street and Kanawha Boulevard. The event is sponsored by Proud Eagle, Goose Island, Tony The Tailor, the Charleston WV Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Kanawha County Public Library. Many downtown retailers and restaurants have special programming planned for the event, along with post-event live music and food and drink offerings. Downtown Streetfest events are also scheduled for Saturday, May 21; Saturday, July 23; and Saturday, Aug. 20 on Capitol Street between Quarrier and Lee Streets.

Loft Walk

Join Generation Charleston for the annual Loft Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 14. During a guided tour through some of Charleston’s newly renovated and re-imagined lofts, guests will see firsthand why more and more people are choosing downtown living. Loft Walk starts at Recovery Sports Grill at 600 Kanawha Blvd. East.. From there, guests can walk or ride a trolley to the various properties. The event is free to attend, but RSVP is required.

This West Virginia Humanities Council “History Alive!” presentation celebrates 100 years of the National Park Service as Gene Worthington of Fayetteville portrays Theodore Roosevelt, the youngest president in our history. Often called “the conservation president,” Roosevelt pushed himself to overcome a sickly childhood and advocated a “life of strenuous endeavor.” He later established some of our most beloved national parks. “History Alive” presenters base their historical characterizations on carefully researched writings, speeches and biographies of the characters they portray, using their original words whenever possible. Capital Classic Volleyball Tournament

The Capital Classic will kick off on Friday, Sept. 2. The WVU-Marshall match up at 7:30 p.m. that day will highlight the event as the Mountaineers look to defend the Golden Ball Trophy after winning a five-set thriller in Morgantown in 2015. During the weekend of Sportsfest and the night before Downtown Streetfest is the 5K Glow Run/Walk. Start the course on Capitol Street and run South towards Kanawha Boulevard. Turn left and run East along Kanawha Boulevard and back.

Brown Bag Concert

Brown Bag Concert is a free lunchtime concert in Davis Park, along the corner of Capitol and Lee Streets in Downtown Charleston. Grab your lunch from a participating Downtown Charleston restaurant, or pack your own, and make your way to Davis Park for a free concert. The concerts are designed to showcase the talent of local musicians, encourage people to get away from their desk at the lunch hour and put a spotlight on the green space in Downtown Charleston. Local musicians perform in the park 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month May through October. Tables and chairs will be setup for those attending.

Scareview Grave Schoul

The School was built in the 1920's and served as a local grade school up until the late 1990's. There have been multiple sightings, noises and one-on-one encounters. There have been a couple of local paranormal teams to investigate. This year we are having a medium from Massachusettes and a national paranormal team come in for more investigating. The school now serves the community as one of the scariest hauntes houses in the state. This is one of the nation's largest non-profit haunts, ranked in the top 40 in 2015. Non perishable food donations are accepted for $2.00 off the $10.00 ticket price. Our facility is the old Fairview Grade School, which gives us 25000 square foot of scary fun. We have something for everyone, young or old, big or small. We won't keep the lights on for you. Concessions and facilities on sight. Hops & Heat Chili Cook-off and Craft Beer Fest

The East End Bazaar will host as a FestivALL Fall event. Hops & Heat is an Appalachian Craft Beer and Chili Cook-off Event celebrating the close of the Open-Air Bazaar season, and will encompass over 30 craft beers from more than 10 Appalachian breweries and crown the Bazaar’s best chili in a chili cook-off competition between 10 + Bazaar cooks.

Dunbar Fall Festival (Street Fair)

City of Dunbar Annual Street Fair - Arts and Crafts, food vendors and live entertainment. There will be special games and activities for kids of all ages on Saturday afternoon through 8:00 p.m. Friday night's entertainment will be Grass Stains Bluegrass Band, Stonestreet Band and The Chase. Saturday's entertainment will include No Regret Band, Tommy Griffith, The Black Diamond and Kenny Evans from the Country Tonite Theatre in Pigeon Forge. Sunday's entertainment will include, but not limited to, Dunbar Ministries combined Choir and Squire Parsons will perform at 3:00 p.m.

Arts & Crafts Mound Festival

The Annual Mound Festival will be held on Saturday, September 9th from 9AM to 5PM, in South Charleston Around the Mound on "D" Street. The Festival will have a wide assortment of West Virginia-made craft items, and there will be a few new attractions to the popular South Charleston event. The Festival usually have more than 100 vendors from across the state selling crafts and food. The Mound Festival is devoted to West Virginia arts and crafts. All vendors must be hand-crafted only -- no kits -- all hand-crafted. It's only open to West Virginia crafters. Examples include wood crafts, candles, jewelry, soaps, wreaths, swags and seasonal items for Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

River Queen Cruises & Taxi

BB Riverboats' River Queen returns to Charleston with 1-1/2 hour sightseeing cruises on the Kanawha River. Enjoy the sights and sounds of FestivALL from a different point of view. Morgan’s Kitchen Fall Festival

Morgan’s Kitchen Fall Festival, sponsored by the St. Albans Historical Society, is from from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at historic Morgan’s Kitchen, located along MacCorkle Ave., in St. Albans. Activities will include apple butter making, cabin tours, pioneer re-enactors, the Coal River Group, arts and crafts, old time music and antique woodcrafters. Baked goods and hot dogs are also available. Apple butter is available for purchase. There is no charge for this event and plenty of parking is available.

West Virginia Adventure Day

ShockaCon Horror/Sci-Fi Convention

Celebrity Guests: Celebrity guests Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Steve Johnson (Ghostbusters), Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave), Oliver Robins (Poltergeist), and Mountain Monsters John Tice, Willy McQuillan, and Wild Bill will be presenting panels and demos and signing autographs all weekend. Regional musicians Weird Paul Petroskey, The Renfields, OrViLL REX, Charlie Ant Eaterr, Miniature Giant, and Hurl Brickbat will perform, as well as belly dance troupes Bint Il Nahar and Naughty Samadhi. The TriState Transylvanians, who produce shadow casts of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and other classics, will stage an original narrative produced via a mash up of cult films, and River City Youth Ballet Ensemble will demonstrate how to do the Thriller dance! The weekend has a slew of interactive and educational events, including acting, fx makeup, home haunt prop building, costuming and cosplay, paranormal investigation, and the procedures and practices of embalming - there is truly something for everyone! There are chances to win fabulous prizes in many contests, such as the adult and kid's costume contests, scream contests, and mummy wrapping, and unique shopping with specialty vendors. ShockaCon is a perfect event for families. Sunday, Oct 2 is traditionally Kid's Day--boasting fun events like a spooky fitness game, origami classes, wand making, and the WV Ghosbuster's Adventure event!
