Planting Containers

Join Executive Director Bill Mills as he plants the many varied containers of the Welcome Center. Hanging baskets, haymows and pots both large and small will be featured. The basics of container gardening will be emphasized, from plant varieties to soil and fertilizer. Most appropriate for adults. Please pre-register for ALL activities 48 hours in advance at www.wvbg.org. $20 for WVBG members, $30 for non-members. Space is limited, register today! All activities take place at the West Virginia Botanic Garden, 1061 Tyrone Road, Morgantown, WV 26508 unless otherwise noted. Park in the lower parking area. Walks and presentations will last 1.5-2hrs and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. Donations are appreciated and can be made online, or at the kiosk by the lower lot. Please refrain from bringing your pet to activities.

Breaking into Blossom: Winter Container Gardening

Break those winter doldrums by joining us for a lively presentation that explores the metaphor of “breaking into blossom” celebrated by artists, writers, and gardeners across the ages. Led by WVBG Educator Stacy Clovis-Woofter, we’ll also create a cheerful indoor container garden with flower bulbs to take home. Container Gardening for Kids: Spectacular Sand Buckets with Succulents

Bring the beach back home and join us for gardening fun, as we create colorful succulent gardens in sand bucket containers! Led by WVBG Outdoor Educator Stacy Clovis-Woofter, this make-and-take garden project offers budding gardeners opportunities to learn more about what these sun-loving plants need to thrive. Learn to create a habitat that provides a welcoming home or resting spot for various West Virginia butterfly species, all in a window box garden! Led by WVBG Outdoor Educator Stacy Clovis-Woofter, this make-and-take garden project offers budding naturalists opportunities to observe, connect, and learn more about butterflies and habitat creation. Open to children ages 4 and older with an accompanying adult. $15 for WVBG members; $20 for non-members.

Medicinal Plants Workshop

Please join Jen-Osha Buysse and Hannah Spencer with the non-profit Aurora Lightsfor an introductory workshop on medicinal herbs. We will focus on three herbs that are easy to use and identify. We will practice different methods for using herbs in the field as well as harvesting and storage for later use. We will also review the components of a basic herbal first aid kit. Each participant will bring home supplies for a poultice. A portion of the proceeds from the class will go to support Aurora Lights’ Herbal Medic chapter, which provides workshops and free herbal health clinics. The Painter’s Palette for Gardening: Using Color Theory in Garden Design

This workshop provides the participant with an in depth look at color theory using the color wheel to design a beautiful garden. Local Master Gardener Dianne DeAngelis will show how understanding color theory can help you select plants that will achieve a specific look and feel in your gardens. Most appropriate for adults.
