Davis & Elkins College will host “Imperial Woman Celebrating Pearl S. Buck” with events for all ages throughout the day Saturday, July 8 at historic Graceland Inn and other locations on campus. Activities and times are: 11 a.m., tours of Graceland, free; 11a.m. - 2 p.m., lunch on the veranda soup and sandwich buffet, $12, tickets at door, Graceland; 2-3 p.m., tours of Pearl S. Buck Room and library collections, free, Booth Library/Liberal Arts Hall; 2-3:30 p.m., children’s activities: kite-making, readings and more, free, Graceland front lawn; 3 p.m., ice cream social, free, library bridge; 4 p.m., presentation: My Mother’s House in Hillsboro, W.Va. by Phyllis Lubin-Tyler, free with dinner ticket or donation to Birthplace Fund, Graceland; 5:15 p.m., dinner events begin, beverages and hors d’oeuvres, included in dinner ticket; 6 p.m., formal four-course dinner with Pearl Buck’s Oriental Cookbook recipes, tickets required, $35 per person, beverages extra, Graceland; 7:30 p.m., A Visit with Pearl S. Burton Kid’s Snowboard Camp
Mountaineer Parks and Burton Snowboards are ready and waiting up at Snowshoe Mountain for a total takeover by little shredders! The 3rd annual Burton Kid’s Snowboard Camp is going to be a rippin’ good time and we’re calling all riders ages 4-12 to come on up and ride! Whether you’re a first time snowboarder, or charging it in the park, we’ve got a team of coaches stoked to help you experience snowboarding like never before! This camp is busting at the seams with fun; 2 full days of snowboarding, expert coaching, a pizza party, Burton swag, even an ice cream social. Want to show off all that style? Winter Wonder Weekend – North Bend State Park
It's full steam ahead to North Bend State Park and Winter Wonder Weekend 2017! Your stop is just the ticket for winter activities like sleigh riding (weather permitting), winter hikes, tours of the local area, programs, crafts and entertainment. Bill Beatty of Wellsburg, WV, is returning to provide an entertaining and informative program Friday evening that you won’t want to miss. The presentation will be followed by an ice cream social by the fireplace and performance by Stepping Stone Band. Saturday activities will include hikes, crafts, bingo, and door prizes along with more entertaining speakers and refreshments. Courtesy of Cal and Sharon Malcom, the weekend will include a display of “Railways in Ritchie County”, a miniature circus with operating model trains, including trains representing the narrow-gauge trains that operated in Ritchie County.
