Runaway slaves who came into Union lines were called contraband, or enemy property confiscated by the Union Army. Step back to the tense times when the lives of these freedom seekers were in limbo.

Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment

Complete with infantry, cavalry and artillery, get a glimpse into West Virginia’s Civil War history with the reenactment of the 1863 Battle of Dry Creek. The event takes place every August at the Greenbrier State Forest in White Sulphur Springs.
