Join park rangers for a 8-mile round trip, 5-hour, hike to Split Rock, learning about the history of the mountain along the way. This is a strenuous hike and proper footwear is required. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. Limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration required by calling 304-535-6038.
Fayetteville Fall Foraging Workshop & Hike
West Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains are a forager’s paradise. Join us for Fayetteville’s first Foraging event with our Fall Foraging Workshop & Hike on Saturday September 30th at Arrowhead Bike Farm. Fall is the perfect time to learn about the skills involved in foraging for wild food. Discover the delicacies that can be found in the woods. Roots, tubers, and shoots, greens, buds, and flowers are among the various plant structures that are available for harvesting. Follow a local legend the “Berry Man” Mitchel Dech as he leads our foraging hike. This event will be hands on exploring the trails of Arrowhead and the surrounding property to discover, discuss, and learn about edible plants in their habitats. Come prepared with comfortable shoes for moderate 2-mile hike. After the hike gather back on the deck for lunch on the bike farm. Enjoy some locally foraged snacks and tea. Interested in spending an afternoon with a great group of foragers? 2nd Annual Pawpawpalooza
Join us for a fun filled day at the park. Rise and Shine 5K starts at 9 p.m. Register at http://www.active.com/moundsville-wv/running/distance-running-races/rise-n-shine-5k-2015?int. The 5K is $20 per person by September 9th and $25 after September 9th. A free 2-3 mile Pawpaw hike starts at 12 p.m. at the Amphitheater and will last roughly 2 hours. Pawpaws will be donated to Brew Keepers for a batch of Pawpaw beer. Enjoy a free yoga session at 2 p.m. with Happy Goat Yoga at the Amphitheater. Music will be provided by Shannon Canterbury at the Amphitheater from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at no charge.
Beech Fork State Park – FIRST DAY HIKE
New Year’s Day is a perfect opportunity to start 2016 by connecting nature, engaging in physical activity and a healthy lifestyle all year long. Meet Assistant Superintendent Dillard Price at 9:00 a.m. at the the Overlook Trail entrance. We'll be hiking the Overlook Trail to explore the natural beauty of the area. Wear appropriate footwear and layer according to weather. No fee to participate. This hike can be used as logged mileage for the Chief's Challenge in 2016. First Day Hikes are scheduled and led by park naturalist or superintendents. Let's Hike!
Twin Falls State Park – FIRST DAY HIKE
It's good to get outdoors on the first day of the year for a walk. Starting at 10:00 a.m., meet in Twin Falls Lodge Lobby to go outdoors and welcome 2016. No fee. Dress appropriately for weather conditions. About one hour.
Tygart Lake State Park – FIRST DAY HIKE
Enjoy the first day of the new year, by checking out the sights and sounds of Tygart Lake State Park. Join the naturalist on a hike along the Lake Trail. Meet at the Park Office/ Nature Center at 10:00 am.
