Inaugural BB&T Malden Salt Fest

The Inaugural BB&T Malden Salt Fest will be held October 6th to 8th in Malden at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works. There will be music, food, tours, a parade, dancing, crafts, demonstrations, and more! October 6th: Dinner at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works for descendants of salt-works owners, workers, and slaves. Tickets will go on sale in September October 7th: The day kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with an old fashioned parade in downtown Malden which will end at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works. The day will be full of assorted cultural activities such as lectures, films, music and dancing. There will be re-enacting of the salt making of the original settlers, oral history taking and tours. A variety of local foods, craft beer, cider and treats will be available for purchase. Live music into the evening. Free admission. October 8th: A service will be held at the African Zion Church in downtown Malden with gospel singing. The Spring Hill Cemetery will be open for tours of the grounds where the salt maker's and their descendants are buried.
