The Back Porch String Band
The Back Porch String Band was formed in Charleston in 1973 and played throughout southern WV. Family and job obligations caused the band to cease playing publicly for 40 years. Now that the band members are retired, they have rekindled their desire to play country, folk, and bluegrass string music and the whole gang will squeeze onto the stage tonight!
Fly In Festival and WV State Flatpick Contest
WV State Flatpick Guitar Contest and Workshops is proudly partnered with Fly in Festival. The Fly In Festival is a bluegrass, old time, Americana, acoustic music festival. Some of the region's best bands and performers will be featured along with the officially sanctioned WV flatpick contest. The event offers airplane tours, sky diving exhibitions, camping, vendors, and food and drinks. The festival enjoys a venue on the beautiful Ohio River just north of Huntington, WV. The festival grounds will open the evening before the event for camping, jamming, and gathering. Some of the region's best Old Time, Bluegrass and Americana Bands will be performing, as-well-as Air Plane Tours, Sky Diving, and Camping. Tickets are $25/Day, $40/Weekend. Live on the Levee with Split Nixon and No Pretty Pictures
Headliner: Split Nixon Formed in the spring of 2002 from Ashland Kentucky, this band of brothers with a thirst for musical success and a strong willingness to blaze the path, Split Nixon began it's journey. Countless rehearsals and studio sessions led to the self titled freshman album completed early in 2004. After it's release, Split Nixon would begin playing numerous regional shows throughout Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. The band quickly gathered a legion of fans in the area and also attracted the attention of many local radio stations. Shortly after, the band signed a management deal with Ameritone Entertainment from Los Angelos, CA This led to national tours with platinum selling acts such as Saliva and Theory of a Deadman. To date, Split Nixon has shared the stage with countless national acts such as the above mentioned, Shinedown, Soil, Hell Yeah, Black Stone Cherry, Seven Mary Three, Hale Storm, Bobaflex, Ra and many many others. With influences anywhere from Rush to Thrice to Dave Matthews Band or This Town Needs Guns, CAKE, Minus the Bear, Why?, you name it! We like to touch on as many bases as we can.
The Boatmen
The Boatmen are from the heart of West Virginia. With diverse instrumentation and the right blend of soaring harmony over top of Americana anthems, they have created a niche all their own. Into their third year and second album, the group has continually expanded its horizons through a non-stop tour schedule and constant support from their close knit fanbase. Come out to see this group which is easily viewed as bluegrass, rock-grass or a new-grass outfit; The Boatmen fall better into Americana Soulgrass. The award-winning Lilly Mountaineers are comprised of some of the finest artists you will find anywhere in the country. Brothers Daniel and Mark Lilly are the core members of the band. LUCKY JOHNSON LISTENING HOUR PRESENTS RAGTIME ANNIE Saturday, June 25, 2016, $10 at door only Ragtime Annie combines the talents of four of the DC area's finest bluegrass musicians, with the added twist of being one of the few all-female groups on the scene today. While sometimes hosting guest members, the band is comprised of core members Avril Smith, Gina Clowes, Ashley Stewart and Malia Furtado who are each individually award winning and together create a sound that remains true to bluegrass tradition at times, and at other times boldly and creatively steps out into a little country, a little swing, and a little something of their own that can't really be dubbed anything by any genre. Malia and Ashley are frequently seen performing with regional favorite, Circa Blue. Avril plays with several bands including the U Liners, The Great Unknowns, and is a founding member of Della Mae. Gina recently played in regionally popular band Bud's Collective, and currently plays for Nashville based band, Chris Jones and the Night Drivers.

North Bend State Park – (5/13-14) – 22nd annual BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
For over 20 years, the Bluegrass Festival at North Bend State Park is a fun filled weekend of pickin’, grinin’, pluckin’, and singin’ with and by great bluegrass bands from the wild, wonderful state of West Virginia and from the surrounding region. During the festival, shop the displays of local WV artisans and find a special souvenir to take home. Visit other attractions and businesses while you're in the area.
