Young Birders Walk

It's never too early to become a birder! This walk will introduce children of all ages and their parents to the wonder and joy of birds and bird watching. Bring binoculars and a bird guide if you have them. This walk is offered in conjunction with the West Virginia Young Birders Club and will be led by Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia’s Director, Katie Fallon. Appropriate for all ages. Free. Please pre-register for ALL activities 48 hours in advance at www.wvbg.org. Space is limited, register today! All activities take place at the West Virginia Botanic Garden, 1061 Tyrone Road, Morgantown, WV 26508 unless otherwise noted. Park in the lower parking area. Walks and presentations will last 1.5-2hrs and are free of charge unless otherwise noted. Donations are appreciated and can be made online, or at the kiosk by the lower lot. Please refrain from bringing your pet to activities.

Great Backyard Bird Count – Kanawha State Forest

Take part with over 100,000 birders from over 130 countries to observe and count bird species, contributing to a massive amout of data used to track "the health of bird populations on a global scale." gbbc.birdcount.org/2016-gbbc-summary/ - It's a nationwide community of birders! Meet at the Kanawha State Forest Nature Center at 2 p.m. We plan to have a feeder count followed by a bird hike. Data collected from the day will be submitted to eBird. Free to the public. Three pairs of binoculars are available for borrow. Join us!

Beech Fork State Park – WEEKEND ACTIVITIES

FRIDAY - June 10th 3:30pm Beginner Fishing Class Learn to tie knots, use lures, and all the basics of fishing. Meet at the Activities Room in Park Headquarters. 5:00 pm Scavenger Hunt See how many things you can find with this park themed scavenger hunt. Pick up at Park Headquarters. SATURDAY - June 11th 4:00pm Kids Fishing Tournament Kids 14 and under can bring their fishing poles and see who can catch the most fish in an hour. There are fish to catch and prizes to be won! 6:00 pm Hay Ride! Take a ride on a hay trailer through Beech Fork State Park. Meet in the parking lot by the camp store. Multiple trips will be taken throughout the evening. Parents should to ride with their children. 8:30 pm Campfire Join Brian the Naturalist at Campfire Circle to enjoy an evening with some magic tricks, spooky stories, jokes, and free marshmallow roasting. SUNDAY - June 12th 9:00am Birding Workshop Come learn the basics of bird watching with the Naturalist. Meet at Park Headquarters. Bring binoculars if you can. 10:30am Nature Walk Get in one last walk before the weekend is over. Perfect walk for photography enthusiasts. Meet in the parking lot by the camp store. Noon. Backyard Frisbee Golf Come tryout our homemade backyard Frisbee golf course in the backyard of Park Headquarters. Frisbees provided or bring or own. 2:00pm Bocce Ball Come behind Beech Fork State Park headquarters to learn and play this fun ancient Egyptian game with the Naturalist! MONDAY - June 13th 2:00pm Pedal Boat Race Meet at the Beech Fork State Park boat dock with a friend to see who can cross the lake and back the fastest!
