Scenic Mountain Triathlon

Come join in a weekend of fun and excitement as we play host to West Virginia's oldest triathlon. Since 1985 this event has become a favorite of triathletes and spectators alike. The entire race is held in the Monongahela National Forest (under special use permit). The race starts with a .5 mile swim in chilly Summit Lake. Next is a 17.1 mile bike ride over 3 Kennison Mountain (elevation of 3,988 feet) to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center. The race concludes with a 6.2 mile run down to the Cranberry Glades and back to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center to the finish line. Triathletes also have a Saturday packet pick-up and social from 3-7:00 p.m. at the Chamber Office in Richwood. On Sunday there will be a post-race cookout at the finish line at the Nature Center. While the cookout is free for the athletes we welcome spectators to join us for a small donation. (Packets can also be picked up the morning of the race.) This is a spectator-friendly race with lots of food and fun for everyone. Each athlete receives a free t-shirt and awards are given for numerous age groups, genders and teams. The event is organized by the Richwood Area Chamber of Commerce and various sponsors. 5-Mile Trail Race

Charleston Parks and Recreation will be hosting their first 5 miler trail race at Cato Park, November 18th at 10am. Moderate to hilly terrain through the Cato Park Trails. Registration is now open with an early bird fee of $25 until November first, which there will then be a fee of $30 to participate thereafter.Race shirt included. Active Southern WV Family Triathlon – Summersville Lake

Participants can compete as an individual or as a team. All members of the team need to complete each leg. Racers will have a 1.2 mile run, 2 mile bicycle ride, and a 1 mile paddle leaving and returning from the beach. There are hills to climb and gravel roads. Participants are to bring all their own equipment and the course is appropriate for ages 9 and up.

Children’s Fun Run

The Charleston Distance Run's Children's Fun Run is for ages 4-12. The run will take place on Clendenin Street and will loop between Quarrier and Lee Streets. The distance of the race will be divided up into 3 different age groups. There is no cost to participate. On-site registration is available at Beni Kedem the day of located at 100 Quarrier Street. Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two-Mile Race

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon begins at 8 a.m. in downtown Parkersburg and is the RRCA W.V. Championship. The rolling course will take you out of the city and into the scenic surroundings of West Virginia before looping back into the commercial area. You will finish the race to the cheers of thousands of spectators lined up on Market Street prior to the Parkersburg Homecoming Festival Parade. NEWS AND SENTINEL TWO MILE RACE: Starting line is at Third and Juliana streets at the Towne Square Parking Garage and the finish line is at Sixth and Market streets. The Two Mile Race is the RRCA West Virginia Championship. Race begins at 8:10 a.m. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. at the Bicentennial Park area. Team trophies will also be awarded. All participants will receive a T-shirt. NEWS AND SENTINEL KIDS RACES: Aug. 20, 2017: Based on age, these events will have age- and gender-based races for children ages 11 and younger. The Tiny Tot Trot is for children ages 5 and under and the Junior Races are for children ages 6 to 11. The Tiny Tot Trot will start at 1 p.m. at Parkersburg High School’s Stadium Field and the Junior Races will follow. Runners in these races can register on race day starting at 11:30 a.m. and ending just prior to the start of the races. Participants may also pre-register by mail, online, or at the Runners Expo on Aug. 19. All participants will receive a medal and a T-shirt.

Thurmond Triathlon

Bring the entire family and come make memories in the heart of the New River Gorge. This beginner friendly triathlon starts at the historic Thurmond Train Depot, where participants will make their way across the bridge over the scenic New River and bike 2 miles to Stonecliff Beach. From there, the race moves to the New River for a 1.5 mile span of easy paddling on calm waters ( ducky boats are available with pre-registration). In the last leg of the race, racers will run from the Dun Glen Day Use Area and make their way back into Thurmond, running a 2-mile loop of the town.

Debbie Green “Debbie’s Dash” Kids Race

Debbie's Dash is a 100 yard dash for children 9 years old and under. It will be held Saturday, August 6th at 5:00 pm. Registration is from 3:00 - 4:30 pm Saturday. (There will be Friday registration as well). There is a $3.00 entry fee. Shirts, and pizza are guaranteed to the first 150 registered. There will also be ice cream by Brynn E. Bears.

Color Me Au-Some 5K Run/Walk

The Color Me Au-Some 5K Run Walk is an event with a fun and colorful twist for local children with autism who attend Augusta Levy Learning Center, West Virginia’s premier autism treatment program. Color Me Au-Some 5K Run Walk is a fun run/walk where participants are covered, coated, swathed, and plastered with color bombs of dry tempera paint powder at stations throughout the course. (PLEASE NOTE: TEMPERA POWDER CONTAINS EGGS). Participants are encouraged to wear white t-shirts to the run/walk to fully engage in the “color me process.” Sunglasses will be provided. Packet pick up Friday June 9th at Heritage Port from 4-7 p.m. and prior to race from 7-8 a.m. at Heritage Port. Color Me Au-Some 5K will take place Saturday, June 10th at 8:30 a.m. at Heritage Port. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. Following the race there will be refreshments, door prizes, music and photo booth by DJ Nick Arno, and an awards ceremony.

Ogden Newspapers Kids Run

Tiny Tot Trot Sponsored by: Ohio Valley Parent Magazine 9 a.m. Saturday, May 27. On Water Street, near Heritage Port. Ages 5 & under, 4-5 year-olds race first, followed by 3 & under. No entry fee. Registration is 8:30 a.m. All entrants will receive finish award ribbon. Ogden Fun Run At 8:20 a.m. Saturday, May 27, the Fun Run will make its way through downtown Wheeling. Also a non-competitive event, the Fun Run is for children 12 and under. No prizes are awarded and the $15 entry fee includes a race T-shirt. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed a T-shirt. Parents are encouraged to run with their children at no cost or pay $15 and also receive a T-shirt. Sizes and quantities of T-shirts are limited at the event. The race will begin at the start/finish line on 14th Street, and head up 14th to Eoff Street. The course heads up 14th Street to Eoff Street, where it turns left, heading north on Eoff Street to 11th Street west. Runners then descend the hill next to the Wheeling YWCA, crossing Chapline Street and heading to Market Street, where they turn right and travel north to 10th Street, left on 10th to Main Street, and then left on Main Street south. The course then turns right on 11th Street, at the elephant, Bobo, at the Heritage Port Gateway Park, then left onto Water Street. The course continues for 300 yards on Water Street before ending in front of Berry Supply Corp.

Ogden Newspapers 5K Run & 5K Walk for Health

Mountaineer Strong Race

This Appalachian state, covered with rugged mountains and river valleys, has long been known for its epic outdoor pursuits. Once you finish this race, we hope you’ll have a deeper understanding of WV’s state motto: Montani Semper Liberi (“Mountaineers are always free”).

Hatfield McCoy Marathon

The Hatfield McCoy Marathon was founded in 2000 and sponsored by the Tug Valley Road Runners Club. Our inaugural race began with just 13 runners. Now we welcome over 1,000 runners! So, whether you want to complete the full 26.2 miles, 13.1, a double half, or even a 5K, the Hatfield McCoy Marathon has a run for you! Oh yeah, if you are a "50 Stater" you can choose either West Virginia or Kentucky as the race state because you'll be running through BOTH! Ranked one of The Weather Channel's Toughest Marathons, Road Runner Magazine's Most Fun Races, RRCA Championship Race, and Red Bull's Must Have Medals.

16th Annual Audubon Race for the Birds

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will hold its 16th annual "Race for the Birds!" in Shepherdstown WV on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The event will be held at the same location as last year: Wild Goose Farm at 293 Shepherd Grade Road. The farm is just across the road from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services' National Conservation Training Center. The 2017 event will include two professionally timed races—one 5 kilometers long and another 10 kilometers long. There will also be a 1-mile "Fun Run" for children under 10 years of age. In addition, adults and families who wish to walk or jog the 5K course at their own pace may do so. The 5K and 10K races will follow non-technical cross-country trails through the farm's scenic fields, rolling hills and woods. The course will be suitable for all runners. The 5K and 10K races will begin at 9:00 a.m. The children's Fun Run will be held at about 10:45 a.m. The children's Fun Run will be free. The fees for the 5K and 10K races will be $25 and $30, respectively, for those who pre-register before March 25. Same-day registration will be $5 more for both distances. Registration for the 5K and 10K races will be capped at 400 for both, so same-day registration may not be available. Mountain Trail Challenge Half Marathon & 5K Run

Trail running - It's a challenge. Two races both begin Saturday, August 12th at 8:30 a.m. from the Beaver Creek Campground at Watoga State Park. Durbin Days

This event is 3 evenings, 1 full day, and a Sunday afternoon of fun, entertainment, and learning for all ages. Various events pit contestants to be the best at horseshoes, tug-of-war, greased pig chase, pet showing, karaoke, hay bale throwing, archery shooting, and running or walking the 5K. There is music, bingo, food, and a carnival every day but Sunday. For Sunday we're planning a community covered dish noon meal and gospel music which is an addition to our festival. Saturday is a day filled with children’s activities, car show/and fireworks interspersed with other events listed above. We also include the Fireman's Parade on Friday and will be holding "Incarcerate a Friend" at the newly renovated town jail on Saturday.

Celtic Knot 5K & 10K

The High Rocks Celtic Knot 5K & 10K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, March 18 in downtown Lewisburg. On site registration opens at 8:30 a.m. The race starts at 10 a.m.

Dirt Dash Trail Run

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 6, 2017 for the Dirt Dash Trail Run and the Rocky Ridge 15K. The Dirt Dash course is five tough, but beautiful miles through the Greenbrier State Forest. Expect lots of hills, single track trail and lots of amazing scenery. You will be on six different trails during this challenging adventure.
